Ahybrid, ormixed species, was the endresult of mixing two or more differentspecies, usually via thebiological process ofreproduction. ManyKlingons referred to any hybridderogatorily as amongrel. (VOY: "Barge of the Dead", "Prophecy")Spock was also derisively referred to as ahalf-breed on a number of occasions. According toDoctorPhlox,Humans andVulcans were quite similar. (ENT: "Demons") In fact,Bethany, a Human/Skagaran hybrid, was one of the first known hybrids encountered by Humans fromEarth, confirming that such interspecies breeding was possible. (ENT: "North Star")

As noted above, Spock, a Human/Vulcan hybrid, had many personal demons when it came to his being.

In2266, he shared with DoctorLeonard McCoy that "being split in two halves is notheory with me, Doctor. I have a Human half, you see, as well as analien half, submerged, constantly atwar with each other. Personal experience, Doctor.
