Background information[]
- Region 2 continued for theEnterprise debut season DVD releases with the packaging format as previously introduced for theStar Trek: The Next Generation,Deep Space Nine andVoyager DVD season releases, and consisted of a stylized hard plastic "Special Premium Box" in which the discs, and the accompanying twelve-page foldout booklet were mounted. This packaging format was utilized for all 2005 Region 2 European and Japanese "Complete Limited Edition" (ASIN B000G7PRN2) releases with only the accompanying booklet and the cardboard box holder backcover release information translated in the language of the target market.
- While Region 1 had seen a deviant initial DVD release format for the three precedingBerman-eraStar Trek series season releases, it now came in the same release format as Region 2.
- On the same day(s) the Region 1 and 2 (UK and Germany only) "Premium Box" releases were issued the firstStar Trek: Enterprise - The Complete Collection releases were also issued in their respective territories.
- The regular 2006 release format in Japan was, like those of its three predecessor series, very differently executed. It consisted of a carton foldout on which the discs were mounted, that came in a softboard slipcase. On this occasion it also complied by chance to the green color theme chosen for the later season 4 slimline releases, contrary to the prior season releases.
- As with the 2005 hard plastic box case, the 2008 Region 2 "slimline" release, consisting of four one/two-disc holding standard plastic snapcases in a hardboard slipcase, became the European 2008 reissue standard, likewise with only the booklet and DVD case inlay sleeves translated in the various languages.
- For undisclosed reasons, Italian and German customers had as the only Region 2 ones been on the receiving end of "market discrimination" with their respective December 2008 and April 2009 slimline variant reissues which were split up in two releases, Parts 4.1 (ASINunknown, Italy[3]/ASIN B0019X9X9Q, Germany) and 4.2 (ASIN B0041KWJZ4, Italy/ASIN B0019X9XA0, Germany), a somewhat dubious practice exercised by the local branches ofCBS Home Entertainment for almost all contemporaryStar Trek serieshome video format releases in Italy and Germany at one time or another. Unlike with those of the prior DVD series releases, the cover of Part 3.2 was not altered but kept the same, though the individual snapcase covers contained within each part were. Both parts came in the same slimpack packaging as the rest of the Region 2 (complete) releases.
- A complete German "slimline" variant was finally released in October 2014, over six years after the rest of Europe had received theirs (ASIN B00LXUGRX0) and only shortly after the two-part edition was re-released in June 2013. Released in April 2013, the Japanese variant had earlier already lagged five years behind the UK release (ASIN B00ALA1T5E, and which featured the exact same slipcase design as the initial 2005 release, aside from some minor additional Japanese text imprints). Italy incidentally, had to make do with imports from other European Region 2 territories.
- CBS Consumer Products commissioned renowned film poster artistBrian Bysouth, who had already provided the service for their precedingDeep Space NineVHS andThe Next Generation/Voyager DVD UK releases, to provide similar artwork for the 2008 Region 2 "slimline" reissue artwork, which was reciprocally used for the 2017 Region 1 reissue.[4]
- The 2008 UK "slimline" reissue, became the motive for Region 4 to concurrently receive its own Season 4 DVD set in the form of the near-identically executed Australasian release. This release became five years later collected in a box and was reissued as part, along with the other three seasons, of the AustralasianStar Trek: Enterprise - The Complete Series collection.
