Acar was a type of general-purposeautomobile typically used byfamilyhouseholds in everydaysituations, such as thetransport ofcargo orindividuals. They were sold bycar salesmen.

That same year, whenSpock andKirk were crossing aNew York Citystreet onfoot, a car almost strikes Spock, the angrymotorist then slammed on thebrakes, causing histires to screech, and he shouted at Spock, telling him to watch where he's going. (TOS: "The City on the Edge of Forever")
In analternate1944, whenAlicia Travers seen the work thatNicky Giorgo did onCarmine'sgunshot wound, she told Carmine that "he shouldstick to cars." (ENT: "Storm Front, Part II")
In the1947,Denning'sbrother-in-law was acar salesman. Denning thought he wasn't good at his job. (DS9: "Little Green Men")
Jimmy was killed in1953 for attempting to break into a car with acrowbar. (DS9: "Far Beyond the Stars")
While visitingEarth in1986,James Kirk was nearly hit by ataxicab. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
Cars were used quite often bypolice departments across20th century Earth, and such vehicles were modified to include flashing lights, sirens, and other devices for their needs. When several of the crew of theUSSVoyager visited the Earth of this era,CaptainKathryn Janeway askedLieutenantTom Paris what they would need to pass for locals and he replied "Nice clothes, a fast car and lots ofmoney." Thehovercar eventually replaced the ground-based car for general use in2036, although ground-based cars were still quite common. (VOY: "The 37's")
During the2130s,Charles Tucker III used to drive his first car out toChatkin Point and park along the shoreline and stare atthe moon with his girlfriend. Tucker later shared the memory withKaitaama while trapped inside aRetellian escape pod that was about the same size as the car. (ENT: "Precious Cargo")
In2152 inorbit of analien planet, theEnterprise, while scanning for thecommunicator signal to locateJonathan Archer andMalcolm Reed, find that they were in adistrict far away from where they had landed theirshuttlepod. In2153,Charles Tucker III had adream that he witnessed thedeath of hissisterElizabeth Tucker, who was killed inFlorida by aXindi weapon. In his dream, she is sitting at a table that appears to be at anoutdoor restaurant, and there is acarparked in the nearbyparking lot. (ENT: "The Xindi")
In early2154, after realizingPhlox could be extremely persuasive, Charles Tucker III told Phlox "remind me never to buy a car from you". (ENT: "The Forgotten")
In2259, there were a variety ofcars that could be seen on thenewsviewscreen in apublic space onKiley 279. (SNW: "Strange New Worlds")
When theUSS Enterprise was going to conduct aninvestigation of thedistress call sent by theUSS Peregrine,CaptainChristopher Pikejokingly told hiscrew that they'll get in thestation wagon and take aroad trip. He then pretends he's aparent talking to hischildren, and pointing histongs at them he says: "Don't make me turn this car around!" (SNW: "All Those Who Wander")
In2261, whenLt. CommanderKirk advanced toacting captain of theUSSFarragut, he was reminded of an oldexpression that hismother used to tell him about adog who caught a car.Spock in turn told him that onVulcan there was a similaridiom about asehlat thatate histail. In2266, when alanding party from theUSS Enterprisebeams down to thestreets of a newly discoveredworld, many decrepit cars decorated the landscape. One car was even turned completely upside down. (TOS: "Miri")
In2268, theinhabitants of planet892-IV advertised a brand of car called theJupiter 8. (TOS: "Bread and Circuses")
The same year, whenSpock,Kirk andMcCoybeamed down toSigma Iotia II, they are nearly struck by a car. (TOS: "A Piece of the Action")
TheIotians were driving cars identical to those driven in theUnited States of America on Earth, in the1920s. One such car was aFlivver, asSpockcalled it. (TOS: "A Piece of the Action")
That same year, theEkosians also had cars. They were similar in design to many of the cars fromEarth in1944. (TOS: "Patterns of Force")
In2365, while trapped in ahotel from thenovelHotel Royale,Texas toldData that hedrove to the hotel in his car, which was a'91Cadillac with only eighty thousand miles on it. Later, after Data beat him at agame ofcraps, Texas asked him if it was something personal, suggesting that he wasangry with him because he wouldn't show him hiscar. (TNG: "The Royale")
In theJulian Bashir, Secret Agentholoprogram, thespy gets to use many cars, includinglimousines. At one point, whenMiles O'Brien had assumed the role ofFalcon, he pointed ahandgun atJulian Bashir and asked him "Car trouble,Mister Bashir?" (DS9: "A Simple Investigation")
In2380, theGelrakians expressed interest in having adeath race to replace their tradition oftrial by combat. They further expressed interest in making thecar out ofcrystal. (LD: "Temporal Edict")
That same year,Beckett Mariner was telling some otherStarfleetofficers of her time atStarfleet Academy, in which she and anothercadet that was afriend of hers,stole a special old car that was owned by byProfessorSaul Rubichik. She then drove the car into thebay.Ottessa Warren didn't find thehumor in Mariner's story, since she knew the Professor and even spoke at hisfuneral service. Thaddeus Troi-Riker was born on astarship, and was fascinated with the concept of having ahomeworld and the lifestyle that came with it. Cars was one of many things he was fascinated by. In the early2240s of thealternate reality,James T. Kirk's stepfather owned an antiqueCorvette, which Kirk drove into a chasm.
In2258, acar drove byStarfleet Academy just before James T. Kirk took theKobayashi Maru scenario for a third time. (Star Trek)
Thefollowing year,DoctorMcCoy advised now-Captain Kirk, "You don'trob abank when the get-away car has a flattire,"metaphorically referring to Kirk planning to infiltrateQo'noS even though theUSSEnterprise'swarp core had broken down. Also, when Kirk andKhan were planning onspace jumping from theEnterprise to theUSSVengeance,Montgomery Scott told Kirk that the doorway into theVengeance was very small, and that making a jump successfully would be like "jumping from a moving car, off abridge and into ashot glass."
Khan was nearly struck by a car when he was running fromSpock, who was chasing him through thestreets ofSan Francisco and later atop airbornegarbage barges. (Star Trek Into Darkness)
