TheBattle of Fort Hindman was a19th centuryAmerican Civil War battle that took place inArkansas. The battle began withUnion Army's shelling of theConfederate Army's Fort Hindman, and ended with the fort's capture by Union forces. Among the bombarding Unionship's were theironclads, USSBaron de Kalb, USSLouisville, USSCincinnati, and thesteamship USSBlack Hawk.

The image depicting the "Bombardment and capture of Fort Hindman, Arkansas Post, Ark. Jany. 11th 1863" was derived from aCurrier and Ives print, circa early 1900s. The print is currently held by the Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division.[1]
