Stone Man Stage

MM5StoneManStage

Theme Music

Stone Man's Stage is a stage that appeared inMega Man 5,Mega Man IV, andMega Man (Game Gear) that hasStone Man as the boss.

Appearances[]

Mega Man 5[]

Stone Man's stage takes place within the caves of a high mountain and occasionally going outside. The stage first starts at the bottom where only the silhouettes can be seen, and the mountain ranges get closer and closer as the player progresses onward, until they are obstructed by clouds. This is the longest stage in the game and also the most lucrative, having every kind of valuable pickup spread out across the stage and even hiding some in areas that can only be accessed by shooting breakable blocks (which are camouflaged well among the regular terrain) in the walls. While mostly a combat stage, there are a few rooms that contain spinning platforms as a gimmick. They remain stationary in the air until the player stands on one. Once stood on, the platform will move in a predetermined path (different for every platform), stop once it reaches the end of its path, and then fall down offscreen. Mega Man also spins in place while standing on them, unable to shoot.

Valuable pickups to look out for:

  • G/CPlate: Unlike the others, this letter is actually hidden off the beaten path. In the first room with Subeils, the bottom right has breakable blocks (which is where the first Subeil will go to if it starts moving). This hidden room holds only the letter.
  • M-Tank: There is a room shaped like a backwards S, and the only enemies in it are two Hirarian 427s. The rightmost wall has a breakable block. Destroying it leads to a hidden room containing this pickup, though it is guarded by a Rock Thrown and a Hirarian 427. Note that if you already have an M-Tank, this pickup won't appear.
  • 1-UP: After the room with Lyrics and Tatepakkans, this pickup is seemingly barred behind walls and impossible to reach. To get to it, use Rush Coil to bounce all the way up and pass through an invisible wall if you hold left.
  • E-Tank: In the room after the 1-UP, there will be a challenge where the player has to jump back and forth between 3 spinning platforms in order to reach the ladder on the far right. This pickup is easily accessible by jumping left from the highest platform, though the timing is specific. Whether you got the pickup or not, you will have to respawn the spinning platforms by backtracking (unless you have Rush Jet or Super Arrow).
  • Eddie: Right after the E-Tank room. The main thing in this room is Eddie, who will randomly provide a big health energy, a big weapon energy, a 1-UP, or an E-Tank. If the player doesn't like what they get and doesn't take it, they can re-enter the room to have Eddie provide the player another valuable pickup. His room has breakable blocks on the side, which lead to a big weapon energy and a big health energy.

Mega Man IV[]

Accessed through a teleporter in the Wily Station, Stone Man's Stage in the GB demake exclusively takes place within the caves of a high mountain, and no outside view can be seen. Right away, a new gimmick is introduced: a two-pegged platform, with each peg being perpendicular to each other at all times. Stationary in the air, one peg can be stood on at all times, but once it is stood on, it will shift 90 degrees in the other direction so the other peg can be stood on. In addition, the stone platforms from Pharaoh Man's Stage return. These platforms stay in place, but when stood on, they will shake left and right for a second before dropping straight down. They drop 1 full tile of distance and Mega Man will have to learn this in order to progress through the stage. The stage also gets a new mid-boss, Kabatoncue, who previously came from Ring Man's Stage inMega Man 4. After the second Kabatoncue, the stage features two branching paths: although they are both dead ends, they each contain a valuable goodie if desired.

Valuable pickups to look out for:

  • P-Chips: A total of 14 P-Chips (7 small) can be found and collected within this stage.
  • E-Tank: After the second Kabatoncue, the stage offers two paths: up or down. Up is the dead end path, and to get to the top, Mega Man will have to use the Tatepakkans' heads and shields as platforms to slide inside the tight gaps. At the very top is the pickup, and Mega Man has to jump off a stone platform at the right time to claim it.
  • E-Tank: After the first E-Tank, one of the rooms upon going down has this pickup stored in a little area on the left, along with 2 small P-Chips. Mega Man can't fall down to this left area from above: he needs to either do a pixel perfect jump there, or use Rush Jet if he has it. There is a Taban guarding the pickups, however.
  • 1-UP: Shortly after the second E-Tank, there are two more paths to take: the slide gap on the left is the dead end path. At the end, this pickup is stationed inside in a lower area and the only way to get to it is to use the 3 stone platforms. At the same time, the stone platforms are also needed to escape, as there is no other way to get out from below without them. The easiest way to nab the pickup is to only use the 2 rightmost stone platforms (ignoring the left one), space them out just enough that you can make your way in and out, and use Ring Boomerang to grab it from the bottom right corner without actually being inside the pickup's area.
  • LPlate: In the next room taking the second regular path, in plain sight and just before the boss gate. There are no obstacles guarding it: simply hold right as Mega Man falls to grab it. It ismandatory in order to progress through the game.
