Scarface (スカーフェイス,Sukāfeisu) is a secondary antagonistinMega Man X: Command Mission. He served asEpsilon's right-hand man in theRebellion Army, and was the third member of the Cadre.

Characteristics[]

Scarface is a tall Reploid with yellow armor. His legs and shoulders have an orange wing design, and his shoulders are wide with spikes on them. His entire head is covered in a form-fitting black helmet, and his right eye appears purely white as though it was once damaged. He has a head of long, silver-blue hair that flows behind himself. In battle he wields a double-bladed beam lance.

A noble knight-type character, Scarface stands by Epsilon to the very end supporting the ideals of the Rebellion. Scarface possesses a deep sense of honor and loyalty, following Epsilon's orders to the letter and fighting with the valor of a true knight. He was willing to throw away his own life for the cause. He often does not attack unless ordered by Epsilon or otherwise provoked - interestingly, Scarface never killed a single Reploid that attacked him at the Central Tower base. AfterX and company intercept and fend off his attack, they encounter a damaged Reploid who reveals that despite the fact that he attacked Scarface, the Reploid knight showed him mercy and even healed him. All this shows that he doesn't like to kill unless it is necessary.^[1]

Background[]

Scarface was one of severalReploids involved in theForce Metal experiments atLagrano Ruins, designated the "Plasma Energy Reploid: Knight Type". When his fellow test subjectEpsilon formed theRebellion Army, Scarface loyally joined him.

Mega Man X: Command Mission[]

Scarface first appears whenShadow betraysX andZero for the Rebellion Army at theLagrano Ruins. He tries to attack Zero while he is immobilized byFerham's whip, but X helps him avoid the attack. In the ensuing scuffle, the twoMaverick Hunters are separated.

Scarface later communicates withBotos in theVanallia Desert facility, learning from him that X's party survived the quicksand and ordering him to finish them off. He also appears atMelda Ore Plant, where he offers to fight the heroes for Ferham, but she declines and insists on doing it herself.

After the Supra-Force Metal is stolen, Scarface invadesCentral Tower alone, believing theResistance had taken theSupra-Force Metal from the missile and wishing to avenge his fallen comrades. He personally challenges X to combat, but is defeated. He recognizes X's strength and, upon being questioned, reveals the Rebellion need the Supra-Force Metal not only as a powerful bargaining tool, but also to help Reploids evolve and take their destinies into their own hands. He then flees the scene.

Scarface returns to the Rebellion hideout within theGrave Ruins Base, and the Resistance manages to trace his location to Epsilon's base of operations. X's team pursues him there and confront Epsilon in the Hall of Glory, but Scarface intervenes to fight them off so Epsilon can escape. After being defeated by X, Scarface dies in an explosion while exclaiming"Glory to the Rebellion!" Epsilon appreciates Scarface's sacrifice and show of loyalty, but chooses to stay and fight, believing that combat with X is an inevitability.

Powers and Abilities[]

Scarface wields a double-bladed beam lance and his elemental alignment is Thunder. His Plasma Lance attack shows him moving so quickly he blinks out of visibility, and he can fire projectiles from his lance with Plasma Ball and Plasma Array. His Electro Breaker fires three lightning bolts at once that steals Life Energy from the party to heal himself.

Trivia[]

• By Chapter 9, Scarface is the only Rebellion Army Cadre left unhindered; the others had all been defeated by X and his party.
• Like other Rebellion Army cadres (Ferham andEpsilon), Scarface is left-handed.
• It's implied that Scarface knows aboutX's Variable Weapon System, and explains that if Epsilon lost to X, not only would the Rebellion cease to exist, but X would gain his power.^[2] This does not actually occur in-game, though X and the party do gain a large portion of EXP from the battle.
