Burn Dinorex (バーン・ディノレックス,Bān Dinorekkusu), also known asMattrex,^[2] is aReploid fromMega Man X5 based on aTyrannosaurus. He owns a rocket Booster Engine necessary for theSpace Shuttle. He was a member ofRepliforce's disaster prevention team and is among the survivors of the Repliforce incident inMega Man X4.

Characteristics[]

Burn Dinorex's design was based off of the extinct Tyrannosaurus Rex, and thus he had a fearsome reptilian appearance. He had sharp teeth and clawed toes. His armor was spiked, he possessed large claws on his forearms, and along his neck down to his tail were great plumes of fire.

Burn Dinorex was stationed in a volcano in Somalia, known as Sunhouse Mountain.^[3] Without Repliforce's knowledge, he had created an illegal warehouse to hide weapons he had created using magma energy. This shows that he had little sense of loyalty and was very self-serving. He didn't trust the Maverick Hunters, assuming that they had come to retire him for his activities, and attacked, leavingX orZero no other choice but to destroy him. It's unknown if he had succumbed to theSigma Virus.

In the Japanese version, Dinorex addresses himself as 俺様 (ore-sama) in his dialogue with X when the Shuttle Plan has launched. 俺様 is an extremely pompous, masculine way of saying "I" and complements Dinorex's arrogant, defiant attitude.

Strategy[]

Burn Dinorex moves around the arena by jumping or dashing. Using hisGround Fire ability, Burn Dinorex can either set fire to the floor or create clusters of flames; he can also leave flaming eruptions in his wake while performing a dash attack. Wind is his weakness, soWing Spiral (with X) orW-Shredder (with Zero) can bring him down quickly.

	Ground Fire (グランドファイア,Gurando Faia)[4]
	Burn Dinorex spits two fireballs that burn on the floor for a while, kicking up embers.
	Damage: 3:4:5 (fireball), 2:3:3 (ember)
	Tackle (タックル,Takkuru)[4]
	Dinorex rushes at the player with his flaming spines. He is invincible from the front during this attack.
	Damage: 6:8:10
	Fireball (ファイアボール,Faiabōru)[4]
	Dinorex clings to a wall and spits three or four fireballs at the player's position. He may also dash off the wall instead. This attack is only used after he's lost 25% health.
	Damage: 3:4:5
	Burn Tackle (バーンタックル,Bān Takkuru)[4]
	Dinorex breathes a carpet of fire across the floor. Then, he rushes across the arena covered in flames, leaving plumes of fire in his wake. This attack is only used after he's lost 75% health.
	Damage: 3:5:6 (tackle), 4:6:7 (plumes)

Archie Comics[]

In theMega Man comics crossover eventWorlds Unite, which also featured theSonic the Hedgehog line (includingSonic Universe, andSonic Boom), Burn Dinorex appears as part ofSigma's Maverick army. He andGigabolt Man-O-War were dispatched to the world ofPanzer Dragoon, specifically to the Drowned Ruins, to plant aUnity Engine. He fought againstBubble Man andRotor the Walrus, being crippled by Bubble Lead and Drill Rush. However, Dinorex nonetheless managed to activate the Unity Engine, although not before spitefully cursing Gigabolt for leaving him behind. Despite the successful activation, he and hisNew Generation Reploid comrade were destroyed by the world's hero.

Rockman X5 (manhua)[]

Burn Dinorex fought X alongsideSigma,Spiral Pegasus,Spike Rosered, andZero. After X applied a cure on Zero, he went on a rampage before returning to normal, defeating the three Reploids assisting Sigma.

Developer Comments
Our third shot in the fantasy series. (grin) Our first, by the way, wasX4'sDragoon. I think the fantasy series will be discontinued after this. (bitter laugh) This character didn't have enough capacity, and the designer in charge had a real tough time of it. Instead, we gave him a comparative abundance of attack patterns. Sorry about that.^[5][6]

Designer Comments
When I got the idea to have fire blowing out of his back, I felt the illo seemed a lot cooler. I'm happy they gave him such a great name.^[5][6]

Trivia[]

• Dinorex's mugshot in the May 1st, 2000 prototype and pre-release materials had him facing left, where as in the final, he's facing forward just like the other Mavericks (with the exception ofTidal Whale).^[7] However, his beta mugshot was still used during the credits of the final game.
• In the initial American release, Dinorex was named Mattrex, afterMatt Sorum, the former drummer of the rock bandGuns N' Roses.^[8]
• TheX Challenge inMega Man X Legacy Collection andMega Man X Legacy Collection 2 states that Burn Dinorex andBlizzard Wolfang were formerly bitter rivals.
