ABOUT DAVID WEINER

A three-decade veteran of the entertainment industry both on the set and behind a keyboard,David Weiner (pronounced Why-ner) is a content producer, an acclaimed documentary filmmaker, a magazine editor-in-chief, an online senior editor, and an award-winning journalist. 

David is the director/writer/producer of theIN SEARCH OF DARKNESS trilogy forCreatorVC, which debuted in 2019 as a critically acclaimedfour-and-a-half-hour documentary about ’80s horror movies. The long-form follow-upsIN SEARCH OF DARKNESS: PART II (2020) andIN SEARCH OF DARKNESS: PART III (2022) were highly lauded by fans and critics alike and extended the journey through ’80s horror cinema to an epic 14-and-a-half hour film experience. The trilogy can be seen on Shudder, Amazon Prime and AMC+.

IN SEARCH OF DARKNESS ’90s will be a two-part documentary: The six-hourIN SEARCH OF DARKNESS: 1990-1994 was released in November 2024; with IN SEARCH OF DARKNESS: 1995-1999 expected to follow in late 2025.

David also is the director/writer/producer ofIN SEARCH OF TOMORROW (2022), a five-hour documentary about ’80s Sci-Fi movies. A follow-up,IN SEARCH OF TOMORROW: PART II, is in development.

He is the executive editor of the 300-page hardcover bookIn Search of Tomorrow: The Ultimate Companion to the ’80s Sci-Fi Documentary, which was published in 2024.

David is also Executive Producer of ALIENS EXPANDED (2024), a four-hour documentary featuring brand-new interviews with director James Cameron, Sigourney Weaver, and cast/crew of the iconic 1986 film ALIENS; and Executive Producer ofTHE THING Expanded — all about John Carpenter’s 1982 masterpiece — which is in the works…

He was executive editor (editor-in-chief) of the iconic Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine from 2015 to 2016, earning the prestigiousRondo Hatton Award two years in a row for Best Classic Magazine.

Prior toFamous Monsters, David logged 13 years working in the trenches atENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT (TV’s longest-running, No. 1 syndicated entertainment news show) writing about and interviewing celebrities and filmmakers as Senior Editor of ETonline.

Creator of the critically acclaimed, multi-Rondo-nominated IT CAME FROM… (ItCameFromBlog.com) retro genre pop-culture site, David has hosted and moderatedComic-Con International panels and screening Q&A’s atArclight Cinemas, the historic Alex Theatre, and other venues; is afrequent guest on various podcasts; and has appeared on camera for multiple junkets, red carpet events, and segment interviews.

He has written pieces for such reputable outlets as The Hollywood Reporter (as aregular contributor to Heat Vision),Variety,L.A. WeeklyEntertainment Tonight,The InsiderYahoo,AOLFandango,Famous Monsters of Filmland,Hollywood.com,WonderScourThe Old Man Club,The Order of the Hexagon and more.

David was the one who broke the news, worldwide, that Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher were returning to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS — a full year before Disney announced it officially —because Hamill told him so.

A board advisor toThe Alex Film Society‘s annual Halloween screening event, David was a Special Jury Member at the Fantasmagoria Film Festival (alongside filmmakers Kier-La Janisse and Adam Green) in the2022 Documentary Feature Category.

Also a 2015Rondo Hatton Award winner for Best Interview of the Year (with Mel Brooks for the 40th anniversary of YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN), and 2016 Writer of the Year runner-up alongsideBest Article (“The Great American Werewolf Reunion”) runner-up at the Rondos that year, David is passionate about film, TV, music, and pop culture, to which he applies a wealth of knowledge when it comes to entertainment trivia and arcane factoids.
