Synopsis for "At the Sign of the Lion"
Wolverine is lone and brooding, sitting in a bar (the first of many bar tropes) agonizing over his love forJean Grey and his dislike forCyclops (Scott Summers). The internal conflict is disrupted whenHercules, the Greek demigod, enters the establishment and begins provoking and bullying Wolverine. This leads to a fierce and chaotic bar fight between the two characters. The story emphasizes Wolverine's independence and combative nature, highlighting his ability to stand his ground against powerful opponents. It is considered Wolverine’s first solo story where he appears as the main character outside of the X-Men. This story also marks the first inking work by the legendary George Pérez. The subtitle for the story is"Extra -- The X-Men’s Wolverine vs. Hercules."

Synopsis for "Call Him...Cyclops"
X-Men #43
—CyclopsWith the kind of press theX-Men get, though, the papers'll probably report it was halted byIron Man's Repulsor Rays!
A back-up narrative explainingCyclops' mutant powers. Cyclops is endowed with a powerful optic blast that he cannot control and must use his ruby quartz glasses to prevent them from firing. It explains that his powers derive its energy from the sun.
It goes on to explain the application ofCyclops' visor, how it is controlled by a nob on the side of the visor or from a secret glove trigger that Cyclops can use when his hands are bound. It explains the force that his powers can strike with and it also explains how Cyclops is a trained fighter. The narrative ends by posing the question of if Cyclops' power is strong enough to face theHulk.
