Kamala Khan[source]

Kamala Khan is a young and inspirational polymorph hero who protectsJersey City as the magnificentMs. Marvel.[31] She has been a huge fan of super heroes since tender age, particularlyCarol Danvers, the original Ms. Marvel, engaging in creative writing and video gaming activities related to her idols.[32] Her latentInhuman lineage were activated by the detonation of theTerrigen Bomb, manifesting as the capacity to stretch and shape her body in almost any way imaginable in addition to a healing factor.[33] Driven by a sense of honor in order to help her community, Khan adopted the Ms. Marvel identity to save those in need, immediately gaining immense recognition as a tender-hearted, inspirational and efficient good doer.[34]

Coming from a family ofPakistani immigrants, Khan has always been able to integrate divergent backgrounds in her daily life, something that proved to be essential in her career as a vigilante.[35] She is an exceptional team player, being constantly supported by her close friends, especially the wittyBruno Carrelli,[36] but also as part of groups such as theAvengers,[37] theWarriors,[38], and theX-Men.[23] More prominently, she has conceived theChampions, a band of teenage heroes that have reached immense reach as free and inspiring combatants that aim at changing the world.[39]

After experiencing death,[15] Kamala Khan was resurrected throughKrakoanResurrection Protocols, which are exclusive tomutants. This experience had her discovered she carried the X-gene as a raremutant-Inhuman hybrid.[30] The life of a mutant is marked by enduring hate and fear, throwing Ms. Marvel into a different challenge.[40] Having become a proud mutant hero, Ms. Marvel publicly endorses mutant rights in her heroic activism, being a relevant player in the superhuman community.[41]

History

No Normal[]

The daughter ofMuneeba andYusuf Khan,[42]Kamala Khan (کمالہ خان in Urdu) was born inJersey City, being considered a miracle baby following a difficult pregnancy her mother had had five years prior.[16] Her parents and her very religious older brother,Aamir, moved to theUnited States fromKarachi,Pakistan.[32] Muneeba's grandparents,Aisha andKareem, had immigrated fromMumbai to Karachi after Pakistan gained independence. Aisha's gold wedding bangles were passed down from generation to generation[4] until being acquire by a pregnant Muneeba days before moving to America.[6] Ever since she was a very young child, Kamala Khan demonstrated a great interest on superheroes and started to study them, initially by collecting toys and later on by creatively writing and discussing about them.[43]

Young Kamala Khan

During kindergarten, Kamala metNakia Bahadir, who went on to become her best friend. Nakia was a practicing Muslim and the daughter of immigrants as well.[33] Some years later, when Kamala was in second grade, the Khan family met one of her new classmates,Bruno Carrelli. The teacher, Mrs. Bartholomew, explained that Bruno's mother had recently lost custody of him and his younger brotherVick to their grandparents from Italy. The family had been struggling to make ends meet, and young Bruno had become something of a pariah. The Khans offered to pay the boy's fees and requested their daughter to play with him. Though reluctant at first, Kamala and Bruno soon formed a close bond over their shared background coming from immigrant families and their love for the animated TV series "Tween Mutant Samurai Turtles". Around this period, Kamala already wore the bangles from her great-grandmother's dowry.[35] After coming of age, as a teenager, though respectful of her heritage and faith, Kamala always felt different and was often mocked by her other peers for her nerdy interests and strict parents. She found solace in Bruno and Nakia and her love for video games, social media, fan fiction, and above all, superheroes. She devotedly followed the career ofCarol Danvers, the magnificent heroine previously known Ms. Marvel who ultimately adopted thenom de guerre Captain Marvel.[32]

Inhumanity[]

Hoping to prove herself to be more than the odd duck, Kamala Khan went against her parents' wishes and snuck out of her home during the night to attend a party at the JerseyWaterfront. Her classmates, particularlyZoe Zimmer and Zoe's boyfriendJosh Richardson, teased and ostracized her. In addition to this, she could not tolerate Bruno reprimanding her for disobeying her parents. Not feeling accepted, Kamala decided to go back home just when Jersey City was suddenly blanketed in theTerrigen Mists.[32] The presence of gaseous substance in the atmosphere was the result of thedetonation of theInhuman city ofAttilan and it could trigger the metamorphosis of those that carried the Inhuman genome into superhuman beings with phenomenal abilities.[44]

Exposed to the Terrigen mist

Unknowingly being an Inhuman, Khan was affected by the mists and became unconscious inside a cocoon. After emerging from the cocoon, Kamala Khan was shocked to see herself transformed into Carol Danvers.[32] The process proved to be very unstable, with her displaying polymorphous capacities that altered the appearance and size. Assuming Ms. Marvel's identity, Khan instinctively saved Zimmer from being drowned after a drunk Richardson unwittingly caused her fall into the river. Upon returning home, Kamala was grounded by her parents, who had been informed by Bruno she had stolen away to the party without their consent. Afraid of not getting acceptance, she decided not to reveal the truth about her new powers to them. Inspired by the honor she felt in that night during the rescue, Kamala Khan decided to become a superhero.[11]

In the following day, Khan took the opportunity to research on her nascent abilities, even exploring them secretly atschool. Despite being angry and disappointed at Bruno for telling on her, she agreed to meet him at the neighborhood convenience store he worked at,Circle Q. Upon arrival, she encountered an army robbery in progress, in fact a staged heist performed by his brother Vick. Jumping into action as Danvers, in an attempt to stop the burglar, Khan was ultimately shot.[36] Having immediately healed from the injuries after shifting back to her true form, Kamala outed herself to Bruno. Knowing Vick was deeply involved with criminal activities, Kamala decided to intervene and use her powers to rescue him from danger.[31]

The Magnificent Ms. Marvel[]

Adopting the nameMs. Marvel, Kamala Khan tracked down Vick Carrelli's employer, a mysterious man known as the "Inventor". Wearing a makeshift costume and a domino mask, Ms. Marvel infiltrateda seemingly-abandoned house inGreenville to rescue Vick. She soon realized that the house was filled teenage minions, led by a boy namedDoyle and armed with a small army worth of mechanical spiders.[31] The rescue attempt failed and she retreated. Back home, despite being comforted by her father, who expressed she was not supposed to prove herself, she was still grounded and ordered to speak to the leader of hermosque,Sheikh Abdullah. This inspired Kamala to become the better version of herself, instead of attempting to replicate others. She trained the limits of her powers and designed a costume using abiokinetic polymer Bruno had invented, which fitted the plasticity of her abilities. This time, the rescue was successful, but Ms. Marvel earned the wrath of the Inventor. To the public, Ms. Marvel declared she would protect Jersey City from any threats.[16] In order to complement her costume, Bruno adapted Kamala's bangles to serve as compartments.[3]

In the following days, Ms. Marvel resisted subtle attacks from the Inventor while struggling not to enrage her parents due to her constant disappearances.[45] Tracking his activities to the sewers, Ms. Marvel learned about his origins as a cockatiel clone ofThomas Edison. While attacked by genetically modified alligators, she teamed up with the feralmutant heroWolverine, who was looking for a missing student,Julie Harrison.[46] Together, Wolverine and Ms. Marvel fended off the creatures and found Julie being used to power the installations the Inventor had to entrap his enemies. In Wolverine, Ms. Marvel recognized her first mentor figure, as it had been suggested by Sheikh Abdullah to be something important if she chose to keep doing her good works.[47]

Having figured out that Ms. Marvel could be an Inhuman, Wolverine alertedCaptain America about her existence. The queen of the Inhumans,Medusa, was briefed consequently. As such, the teleporting dogLockjaw was assigned to aid Ms. Marvel.[47] Taking a shine to Lockjaw, Kamala brought him home with her. By tracking Julie's social media activity, she assumed the Inventor was nearBayonne. Lockjaw transported them to the destiny, an abandoned power plant, from where another teenage hostage was rescued. However, during the mission, one of the Inventor's robots left a tracer with Ms. Marvel. At school, she was surprised by one of his mechanical monstrosities. During this incident, Ms. Marvel realized that she was no longer able to shapeshift into other forms[33] as a result of her healing abilities. Succumbing to the inflicted injuries, Kamala Khan was taken by Medusa toNew Attilan alongside Bruno, where she was nursed back to health by the physicianVinatos. There, she was finally informed of her Inhuman lineage and the true nature of her powers.[18]

Ms. Marvel decided to end the Inventor's crimes for good and went with Vick and Lockjaw to his lair to rescue that the teenagers forced into machines as power sources. To her surprise, the children were voluntaries and refused to be rescued.[18] Having preyed on feelings of worthlessness, the Inventor convinced them their only use was to power his machines. Instead, Ms. Marvel inspired them and mobilized them to join her against the Inventor. Lockjaw was captured by the Inventor, who upon being followed revealed he had several teenagers under his control, including Nakia Bahadir.[48] The Inventor blackmailed Ms. Marvel, sharing he would attack her school in retaliation and expressing his wish of using her to empower his machinery. She shrank down and enter it to and took control, but the villain used an electromagnetic pulse to weaken her elasticity and force her out. Fortunately, his former lackeys came to her aid and saved Lockjaw, who broke her free. Having realized she should act as part of a team, Ms. Marvel had contacted Bruno, who called the police. The Inventor was surprised and arrested. Nakia and the other abductees were taken to the hospital. In the end, Kamala Khan realized that her normal life was over.[49]

A peculiar encounter after this adventure involved the God of MischiefLoki, who worked for theAll-Mother ofAsgard, and investigated any traces of the Inventor's dangerous activities at the Coles Academic High School during the Valentine's Day dance. As a trickster, Loki bewitched the teenagers with an honesty spell, causing chaos among them. Simultaneously, Loki sent Kamala Khan an anonymous letter after learning Bruno Carrelli had been in love with her. In the end, Loki parted in good terms with Ms. Marvel after not finding any evidence of danger, and Bruno's infatuation was not exposed as Ms. Marvel shared how she valued their friendship.[50]

Meeting Captain Marvel[]

Ms. Marvel using her morphogenic elongation to fight crime

Ms. Marvel was adamant about keeping her role as a vigilante. On getting reports about a villain wearing Captain Marvel's outfit when attacking the police inManhattan, she went for action. The villain wasDoctor Minerva, who secured Inhuman cocoons for her unscrupulous experiments. By teaming up withSpider-Man, Ms. Marvel was able to stop Minerva. While Spider-Man physically combatted her, Ms. Marvel removed the Inhuman baby who emerged from the Inhuman case. In the end, the heroes threatened Doctor Minerva with exposing her illegal activities to theKree Empire. Spider-Man complimented Ms. Marvel, deepening her connections to the superhero community.[51] She unexpectedly teamed up with agents ofS.H.I.E.L.D., who infiltrated her school to interceptGrayson Blair, a student involved with illegal transactions of technology. He used weaponry designed by theWizard to create a distraction, but Ms. Marvel stopped his plans. The leader of the operation,Phil Coulson connected with Ms. Marvel due to their shared interest on superheroes, while agentJemma Simmons alerted her about the issues of leading a double life. In S.H.I.E.L.D., Kamala Khan gained important allies.[52]

Other types of relationships were also forged as Ms. Marvel started to frequent New Attilan, learning more about her Inhuman heritage and powers and meeting other recently activatedNuHumans.[53] Still, she refused to abandon her home inGrove Street, worrying queen Medusa. One day, during dinner, the Khans were visited by a boy namedKamran, the son of their closest friends. After years of not seeing him, Kamala was baffled and interested since they shared common interests, not to mention how attractive he was. Kamran and Kamala went toNewark Avenue together, supervised by Aamir, where they continued to bond. They were interrupted byKaboom, a radical Inhuman terrorist and member of an organization seeking to overthrow Medusa and affirm their perceived superiority overhumanity. Secretly assuming her Ms. Marvel identity, Kamala Khan swiftly knocked the troublemaker out. In private, Kamran revealed that not only that he had seen her as Ms. Marvel, but that he was an Inhuman as well.[54] As she shared more moments with Kamran, such as sneaking out to watch the night and get a ride to school, Kamala learned he was in fact in league with the same group Kaboom was a part of and had other interests about Ms. Marvel. He brutally put her out of commission and kidnapped her to introduce her to the leader of the band of renegades,Lineage.[55] Trapped in a secret section of New Attilan, Kamran blamed Kamala for accepting the invitation of getting into his car. She refused to join Lineage and managed to alert Bruno about the situation. Ms. Marvel defeated Kamran and was able to escape the city with Bruno's assistance.[56] Lineage's attempt to perform a coup went on. As he made his last move, Ms. Marvel collaborated with the Inhumans of New Attilan by gathering several of them alongside Lockjaw, leading to the liberation of New Attilan of the rebellion.[57]

Amid the global panic over theincursion events, in which alternate dimensions collapsed in on each other, and personal drama involving the recent events with Lineage, Kamala Khan was horrified to arrive home and find her parents knocked out and Aamir kidnapped by Kamran to have his Inhuman genes forcedly awakened. Simultaneously, she patrolled Jersey City, especially her school, which had been protected by Loki using mindless golems as well. In a moment she had to clear her head, Ms. Marvel was greeted by none other than Carol Danvers, her main inspiration, Captain Marvel herself.[42] Danver shared pieces of advice to Khan and expressed the pride she felt concerning her successor. The incursion event was foreseen as the end of the universe; in the last moments they had, Captain Marvel agreed to help Ms. Marvel rescue her brother from Kamran. The two heroines tracked him to a warehouse on the waterfront and defeated Kaboom, but, by the time they found him, Aamir had already been exposed to Terrigen.[34] In fact, the Terrigen was not genuine and did not trigger a complete metamorphosis in Aamir, who still managed to knock Kamran out. Before Captain Marvel rejoined the other heroes in Manhattan, she gave Ms. Marvel a pendant with a built-in locator and some final words of wisdom, encouraging Kamala Khan to hold on to hope and keep fighting.[58]

While Aamir recovered , Muneeba and Yusuf Khan met their children at the ruins of the school. Kamala finally shared with her mother the truth about her secret identity as Ms. Marvel. As it would turn out, Muneeba Khan already knew.[58] Muneeba praised her daughter for her super-heroic endeavors, proud to know that she had raised a righteous child that sought only to help others. When interacting with her friends, Kamala cleared the air with her best friend Nakia that had been growing tenser since she began living her double life, and even managed to make peace with her bully, Zoe Zimmer. Ultimately, Kamala went to see Bruno, who finally confessed how he felt about her. Kamala told him that she wanted to focus on being Ms. Marvel and that, though she did love him, he was not supposed to wait for her. In that moment, the world finally came to an end.[59]

All-New, All-Different[]

All-New, All-Different Avengers Vol 1 1 Asrar Variant Textless

Ms. Marvel with theAvengers

The universe was restored, and Ms. Marvel continued her usual activities. When a horde of creatures fromMicroverse invaded Earth, the teenage cosmic patrollerNova went on a journey to banish them. This conflict made him cross paths with Ms. Marvel and they shared very awkward exchanges, which included Nova exposing his civillian identity to Ms. Marvel. Both believed they would never see each other again,[60] but, when the space monster known as theWarbringer raided theLiberty Science Center, Ms. Marvel and Nova unwillingly teamed up again. They could not settle their differences, since Nova displayed little care for potential collateral damage. The commotion naturally assembled other heroes as well,[37] leading to the official reformation of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, theAvengers, byIron Man, which Ms. Marvel accepted to be part of wholeheartedly.[61] With little resources, the Avengers were based in awarehouse in New Jersey. Besides Nova, Ms. Marvel also connected with the young and all-newSpider-Man, since the trio shared a similar age in the Avengers roster.[62] Their bond deepened as they facedMole Man and hisMoloids beneathNew York City.[63]

In Jersey City, Kamala Khan experienced notable differences. Thanks to a grant fromStark Industries, the science lab at Coles Academic High School had seen a remarkable improvement; Zoe Zimmer came to join Kamala's group of friends, getting closer Nakia Bahadir; and Bruno started a relationship with a fellow student namedMike, sparking jealousy in Kamala. Also, her instant growth in popularity turned her public image into a beacon of gentrification implemented by a company named Hope Yard.[64] Nakia was a vocal opposer of Ms. Marvel, regarding her as an opportunistic figure in Jersey City. This prompted Ms. Marvel to investigateChuck Worthy, the front man of Hope Yards. Realizing brainwashing was a technique they adopted, Ms. Marvel ended up clashing withDoctor Faustus, the actual leader of the group, in fact a backronym forHydra. Bruno had become one of Faustus' brainwashed lackeys.[65] The outpowered Ms. Marvel retreated and looked for Mike for help. Having access to Bruno's data, including research that could stop Hydra's control, Ms. Marvel and Mike liberated the mental slaves. Although Faustus was defeated, Ms. Marvel's reputation had taken a profound beating.[66]

Balancing her double life proved to be difficult to Kamala Khan, since being an Avenger, a student and a reliable family member was taxing. Aamir was to be married toTyesha Hillman, a young woman his sister came to instantly adore, and Kamala was involved in the organization of the ceremony; meanwhile, her performance at school was not satisfactory. This prompted her to ask Bruno to create golem replicas of her using Loki's enchanted creatures that stayed at the school, so she could focus on her duty as a hero. The process went out of control and several creatures were created[67] due to Ms. Marvel being previously infected by a neurotoxin developed by Hydra.[68] Realizing the selfishness of her recent actions, Ms. Marvel realized she should solve the situation considering others. As such, she contacted Captain Marvel for assistance. Meanwhile, Bruno was able to summon Loki. Together, they eradicated all golem creatures. Iron Man also arrived on the scene as a representative of the Avengers. Ms. Marvel noticed unusual tension between her mentors Captain Marvel and Iron Man. Still, both agreed as they recommended her to prioritize her duties. Kamala Khan then proudly chose her family and attended Tyesha and Aamir's wedding, with the former moving in with her in-laws.[69]

Being an Avenger was extremely important to Ms. Marvel. However, she was reprimanded by senior memberVision for her reckless attitude. She was confused by the accusation, since she could not recognize such deeds. As a result, she was expelled from the Avengers. Despite their initial issues, Nova was the one who believed in her innocence and confronted the Vision about it, also being kicked out of the team. Almost immediately, the Avengers learned the Vision had been corrupted byMister Gryphon, a temporal version ofKang, the Conqueror.[70] Despite being wronged, Ms. Marvel and Nova decided to help the Avengers against the Vision, who got ultimately freed from Gryphon's influence. In the end, the Avengers managed to banish the villain from the present.[71] In order to remedy his actions, the Vision reached out to Kamala Khan at her school by impersonating one of her teachers. He gifted her with an advanced virtual reality device that contained all the adventures the Avengers had had, allowing her to experience the history of her idols as if she had been with them.[72]

When the Avengers were entrapped in the fabricated reality ofPleasant Hill after answering a call for help from S.H.I.E.L.D. directorMaria Hill, Ms. Marvel led an ordinary life in the small town that was actually a prison for superhumans.[72] The field leader of theAvengers Unity Division,Rogue, resisted the psychic conditioning, recognized Ms. Marvel and confronted her. Remembering Rogue had been responsible for assaulting Danvers years in the past, an enraged Ms. Marvel attacked her, but ultimately this had her break away from the illusion.[73] The rebellion led to a massive super villain riot that was ultimately contained.[74] As an Avenger, Ms. Marvel had the opportunity to go to outer space, in order to investigate the disappearance of Nova's father, ending up in a miserable planet they saved from being tormented by the demonicAnnihilus, ruler of theNegative Zone.[75] When representing Coles Academic High School at a tri-state area science competition with her classmates, Kamala was shocked to see the opposing team counted with an Avenger, Miles Morales, secretly her teammate Spider-Man. Being unaware of Ms. Marvel's identity, Morales ended up raising tensions in the competition, which would be important for their opportunities of attending college. A desperate Bruno deployed an unfinished project of his to gain advantage, but it exploded, forcing Ms. Marvel and Spider-Man to save the day. In the end, they were joined by Nova, who was occasionally nearby and ultimately made amends with each other.[76]

Civil War II[]

The superhero community was introduced toUlysses Cain, a new Inhuman with potent powers of precognition.[77] His abilities sparked the interest of Captain Marvel, who wished to deploy the future intel to act preventively in protecting lives. She invited Ms. Marvel to theAlpha Flight Space Program to recruit her as a supervisor to volunteerCadets led byBecky St. Judy that wished to make use of Ulysses' clairvoyance. In their first mission, the Cadets successfully apprehendedHijinx of theCanadian Ninja Syndicate, ending their operations. Though initially believing in its apparently flawless efficiency, Kamala questioned the implications of possible profiling, especially after discussing the issue with her sister-in-law.[4] Matters got complicated when Josh Richardson was predicted to set their high school on fire. He was arrested by the Cadets with brutality, and Ms. Marvel realized that Captain Marvel was undeterred about her methods.[6]

Ms. Marvel loses faith inCaptain Marvel

Kamala's friends visited Josh to fight for his freedom, and, as Ms. Marvel, she sided with the Cadets to prevent the possible arson. In secrecy, Bruno planned to break Josh free during the night, and Kamala was informed about this plan by her brother Aamir. Upon arriving on site, Ms. Marvel witnessed her best friend sustain severe injuries from the security system blowing up as he tampered with it.[6] Bruno was hospitalized and partially paralyzed. The heartbroken Ms. Marvel decided to shut down the Cadets, but ended up physically confronting her former protégés. Captain Marvel intervened and claimed the operation would not end. Tensions between Ms. Marvel's two most prominent mentors, Captain Marvel and Iron Man, had increased. Frustrated, Ms. Marvel sought the aid of Hijinx to devise a criminal plan to solve the issue.[35] With his help, Becky, now donning an armor as Lockdown, was lured to a junkyard under the possibility of a false bombing. As a battle ensued between Ms. Marvel and Lockdown. Captain Marvel was summoned by Ms. Marvel in order to witness the faults in her predictive justice. The two Marvels entered a debate, with Ms. Marvel believing she should protect her city even from her idol, while Captain Marvel express her disappointment with the crooked ethics of joining forces with criminals.[3]

Ms. Marvel fully aligned herself with Iron Man in theSecond Superhuman Civil War that emerged from the ideological debate imposed by Captain Marvel's actions.[3][78] Ms. Marvel's consolidated her position when her friend Spider-Man was targetted by Captain Marvel for being accused of murderingCaptain America in a possible future.[79] Ms. Marvle herself held Captain Marvel from pursuing him during his retreated. Iron Man recommended Nova and Ms. Marvel to find him. This was seen as an opportunity for the young heroes to question the stance of adults and permanently part ways.[80] The conflict ended with Iron Man being put out of commission. Ms. Marvel gathered the dissident teenage champions and retreated.[81] Following her rupture with Captain Marvel and hoping to find comfort, Kamala met a partially recovered Bruno at the hospital. He angrily blamed her for her selfishness and how she did not consider the consequences his injuries. Declaring his intentions of accepting a scholarship inWakanda, he said he never wanted to see Kamala again. Devastated, Kamala Khan threw away the pendant Captain Marvel had given her for communication.[3]

A hurt Kamala travelled to Karachi by herself, seeing the trip as an opportunity to get away from her recent conflicts. In an unfortunate coincidence, she stumbled upon Bruno at the airport. She was warmly welcomed by her grandmother and several other relatives. Soon, Kamala metKareem, a boy who was a friend of the family, and ceded the room he was staying in to accommodate her. As a traveller, Kamala could not fit, being too much of an American for her Pakistani family. In the following days, she tried not to involve in matters that would require Ms. Marvel's intervention, but cartels sabotaged water supplies for profit, bringing her into action. In her vigilantism, she crossed paths with Laal Khanjeer, the "Red Dagger," another costumed hero. Before returning home, Kamala Khan made peace with the fact that she in fact had two worlds she could return to, embracing her two backgrounds as an immigrant and a foreigner.[82]

Champions[]

Champions Vol 2 2 Choi Variant Textless

Leading theChampions

In crisis, Ms. Marvel could not see herself as an Avenger anymore and fully resigned from membership. Disillusioned, she turned to Nova and Spider-Man, who had also left the team, to find a new purpose in the form of an independent group baptized theChampions with other teenage wonders.[39] Ms. Marvel was the inspirational voice of the group that spread their mission to the public and kept the team cohesive.[83] In the fundamentalistic nation ofSharzhad, the Champions were contacted through social media for help in easing tensions regarding the gender apartheid they endured. They supported the female resistance and liberated them from their oppressors. During this period, Ms. Marvel was challenged by her teammate, the totally awesomeHulk, about the leadership of the Champions.[84] Another short conflict she faced concerned another teammate, the time-displaced version ofCyclops, a mutant who was involved in a complicated issue with the emerging war against the Inhumans. However, they soon sympathized with each other, becoming close friends. When returning home, the Champions had their aircraft destroyed by theAtlantean Navy, being captured. Ms. Marvel proved to be a natural leader when directing their escape plan. However, the group ended up with no official leadership.[85]

In the corporate mercenaries known as theFreelancers, the Champions found nemeses.[86] As part of one of their assignments, the Freelancers framed the Champions for beating up two homeless men. Engaging in battle, the Champions cleared their name. This had been the plan all along, since, as the owners of the brand, the Freelancers' contractors could capitalize over the rising popularity. Ms. Marvel was deeply affected by her idea being corrupted.[87] She was comforted by Nova, who managed to promote a boycott campaign against the false trademark.[88] Ms. Marvel's affairs with the public opinion also reached an individual level. In Jersey City, after she learned Chuck Worthy had paved his way into the political scene using unscrupulous methods and ran for mayor, she publicly supported his opponent,Stella Marchesi. Her campaign was successful. Simultaneously she connected with her sister-in-law's brother at school,Gabe Hillman.[89]

During her online interactions, Kamala was stalked and targetted by a mysterious hacker, who made his way through a virus calledDoc.X. Her investigations led to a cold end.[90] That made her worry about the possibility of her secret identity being exposed. At some point, Ms. Marvel realized the virus itself was sentient and schemed the attacks.[91] The intelligence blackmailed Kamala with exposing secrets, including her secret identity and the fact that Zoe Zimmers was in love with Nakia Bahadir. In order to leave Ms. Marvel alone, the artificial creature wanted access to S.H.I.E.L.D.'s database. Despite gaining access through Coulson, Ms. Marvel refused to infect S.H.I.E.L.D. and decided to stood for herself.[92] As a strategy, Ms. Marvel decided to assemble the group of gamers she played with on the internet and reprogram Doc.X through acting nice on the internet. Part of the copies were successfully converted, but not all, which were able to corrupt people directly. However, this allowed Ms. Marvel to physically defeat the threat.[93]

Despite winning the election, Marchesi had her position usurped by Chuck Worthy, who immediately implemented racist policies in the city, oppressing those of different cultural backgrounds through hisK.I.N.D. agency. Noticing something familiar in the act, Kamala realized Lockdown was probably behind the bureaucracy that reinforced this course of action and confronted her. Lockdown's minion, Discord, was able to incapacitate Ms. Marvel during the conflict using electricity. Meanwhile, Aamir was put under arrest by K.I.N.D.[94] due to hiding his alleged super powers. K.I.N.D. threatened Aamir to get to Ms. Marvel as she reached out to Marchesi.[95] Aamir rebelled and escaped with some superhuman prisoners to Sheikh Abdullah's mosque. They were followed by Lockdown and Discord, who were opposed by Ms. Marvel. In horror, Ms. Marvel learned Discord was in fact Josh Richardson. Being disappointed, she had no alternative but to also disclose her true identity to him.[96] He covered her retreat and, with Lockjaw's help, she was able to nurture herself to heal. In the end, Marchesi reinstated her position and was able to place Lockdown under arrest. Jersey City was once again safe for diverse groups.[97]

Tensions between the X-Men and the Inhumans reached an extreme point due to the Terrigen Mist intoxicating mutants. The X-Men planned to eliminate the substance from the atmosphere, a sacred element to the Inhumans, and war exploded. The acting ruler of the Inhumans,Iso, contacted Ms. Marvel in order to recruit agents to help New Attilan, something that caught the X-Men by surprise.[98] Through the InhumanMosaic, Ms. Marvel and the others learned the X-Men fought because the mists would dissipate into the atmosphere and potentially eradicate all mutants on Earth. Immediately, she questioned the Inhumans in fighting back.[99] Instead, they helped the mutant inventorForge design a device that would consume the Terrigen, being joined by Ms. Marvel's teammate from the Champions, Cyclops. The X-Men opposed them inIceland, not being aware of their real plan.[100] In the end, Medusa herself was responsible for destroying the Terrigen mists. As a result, the Inhumans lost the source of their phenomenal powers.[101]

Marvel Legacy[]

The Inhuman population suffered another major blow with the ascension of Hydra to power through their main covert operative, Captain America. Inhumans were sent to concentration camps.[102] Jersey City was invaded by Hydra agents hunting Ms. Marvel down. This separated Ms. Marvel from the other Champions.[103] Struggling to escape, she was recruited by the Inhuman agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.Quake to oppose Hydra and raid prison installations. In a tense exchange, the group of Inhumans learned they should rescue theson ofKarnak, Leer, from the none other than X-Men on the West Coast.[104] The band ofWarriors crossed the overtaken country by car until clashing with the X-Men.[105] Ms. Marvel vehemently disagreed with Quake's violent ways of getting the job done, leading to arguments.[103] To make matters worse, Hydra'sAvengers found the runaway Inhumans being guided byMister Hyde. AChthon-possessedScarlet Witch nullified Ms. Marvel's control over her own body. Ironically, they were saved by the X-Men and offered asylum inNew Tian.[106] With Leer being able to amplify Inhuman abilities, the Warriors had power to fight back, being inspired by Ms. Marvel's speeches. The Inhumans joined the final resistance that overthrew the Hydra regime. However, Ms. Marvel chose to part ways with the Warriors after learning Karnak had allowed his own son to be tortured in order to serve his schemes.[107]

As a consequence of the end of the Hydra regime, thesentient cosmic cube involved in the crisis sent several heroes into the past to meet the champions that inspired them. Ms. Marvel was affected, arriving years in the past as an incidentally hired intern, "Karina Karuso", forWoman Magazine, the publication Carol Danvers worked for during her early days as Ms. Marvel herself. Danvers struggled to maintain the periodical, andBarbara Nelson, the editor of theFemale Magazine saw it as an opportunity to supplant their office. Danvers exposed Nelson as an alienShi'ar dissident named Nightscream, and Khan joined her in fighting the villain. During action, Khan realized that Danvers prioritized reinforcing peace and order, while her way of acting involved freedom. As such, her main goal became reconciling diverging opinions, allowingWoman to become a magazine about both serious political issues and frivolous matters about feminity, which ended up saving the publication. Having a better understanding of the legacy of the name she had adopted, Kamala Khan returned to the present.[12]

Despite Hydra being overthrown, the Inhumans still struggled with adversities, which involved infants being kidnapped.Moon Girl wished Ms. Marvel andInferno helped her reform the Warriors, but Karnak and Quake were considered problematic teammates. Still, the mission was considered to be important, and Ms. Marvel and Inferno helped Quake fend off the assassinBullseye to recruit her again.[108] The Warriors investigated the capture of Inferno's baby niece, tracking the laboratory ofDark Beast to save the captives.[38] When faced by Dark Beast, the Warriors learnedMister Sinister was behind the kidnappings, as he took an interest in experimenting on Inhumans. Ms. Marvel was particularly worried about Moon Girl secretly being advised by Karnak since he had originally enable Sinister's research.[109] Parallel to this, Ms. Marvel seemed concerned about Inferno getting romantically involved with Quake. In desperation, he betrayed New Attilan to get ingredients Mister Sinister needed[110] in exchange for his niece. This allowed the Warriors to bring the fight back to Sinister at theTower of Wisdom, defeating Sinister. However, this also meant that Terrigenesis was actually lost, earning Ms. Marvel and the others the disapproval of the Inhuman community.[111] Having been banished from New Attilian, the Warriors said goodbye. Ms. Marvel took the opportunity to make clear that her discomfort with Quake in regards to Inferno considered her facetious personality and deeds. As a reaction, Quake expressed her admiration for Ms. Marvel's sense of goodness, and they made amends.[112]

Jersey City gained a new hero in the form of Red Dagger, the vigilante Ms. Marvel had met in Karachi. Coincidentally, his arrival took place when Kareem moved to America for an exchange program. They teamed up to avert a train crash.[113] Soon after, however, Ms. Marvel mysteriously vanished. Her friends, Nakia, Zoe, Gabe and Mike, adopted her identity to keep her spirit alive in the city, being helped by Red Dagger. Seeing no alternative, they were able to call for Captain Marvel using the pendant that Mike had been able to secure.[114] Captain Marvel oriented the teenagers in saving the city from attacks performed byDr. Gregory Knox, the creator of the Inventor. Meanwhile, Kamala Khan was found by her friend Naftali in a recluse private school, a decision she took after questioning her position as a super-hero. She was informed the city suffered without her. Upon coming back, she helped Knox get defeated and reconciled with Captain Marvel. Her friends celebrated her return,[115] especially Red Dagger, who welcomed her with a kiss, the first of her life. In an unlucky turn of events, Bruno had also come back from Wakanda and saw the display of affection, adding another layer of complexity to Kamala Khan's personal life. Once again, she sought for advice with Sheikh Abdullah.[116] Red Dagger ultimately decided to leave to Karachi, after realizing Ms. Marvel did not correspond his feelings. This took place after they defeated Doc.X together, as it had assumed the form of a mean teenage girl to infiltrate Kamala's high school.[117] Around this period, Kamala Khan accompanied the birth of her nephew,Malik.[116] Moreover, she also finally felt comfortable to fully share her history and secret identity with her closer friends, who constantly assisted her in times of need and had been aware of the truth for a long time despite her not being certain of it.[118]

Ending their long-time conflict, the Champions teamed up with the Avengers to stop spatial disturbances fromCounter-Earth generated by theHigh Evolutionary.[119] The Champions expanded their operations with several recruitments,[120] but Cyclops chose to quit the team, sharing his intentions to Ms. Marvel only while expressing his admiration and sense of friendship.[121] The Champions investigated activities in the Arctic Circle, learning the villain known as theMaster of the World wished to restore the ice caps in order to save the world, only to rule it in the future and ultimately deciding to support him.[122] Captain Marvel andAlpha Flight, having previous experience with the Master, opposed the Champions, since Ms. Marvel resisted to comply, sparking a battle. After it was revealed the Master of the World disturbed the spirits in the location, the heroes teamed up to defeat him. Ms. Marvel apologized to Captain Marvel for her attitude, she was embraced with Captain Marvel declaring she had her heart in the right place.[123] In an encounter with theMan-Thing, the Champions witnessed their teammates Nova andWasp vanish.[124] They were tracked to the fabulousWeirdworld, where Kamala Khan was remade without her original memories as Mystic Marvel, part of the Resistance against the Master of the World[1] guided byJennifer Kale. Mystic Marvel foughtModred the Mystic.[125] In the end, the illusion was broken with the Master's ultimate defeat. The Man-Thing returned all the Champions to Earth.[126]

Bruno asked Kamala to probe into her powers to get a better understanding of how they worked. The scans disturbed her control over them, causing her to be defenseless against theShocker.[127] While combatting the Shocker, who wished to consolidate his influence out of New York City, Ms. Marvel experienced unexplained transitions to a warped plane of existence.[128] The Shocker experimented with a temporal vortex he could not fully comprehend. When in contact with it, Ms. Marvel interacted with the cosmic creature known asSingularity. Meanwhile, Bruno comprehended Ms. Marvel's size-altering powers were based on time travel, as she could borrow mass from different moments from the future and the past.[129] While fighting the Shocker, the dimensional rift ran out of control. Bruno attempted to fix it, sending the Shocker away and leaving Jersey City in peace.[130] With a better comprehension on her powers and role, Kamala Khan enjoyed the company of her family and friends.[131]

The Destined One[]

As part of a school trip, Kamala Khan visited theEmpire State University. There, the macabre villainJackal created a commotion, being opposed by Peter Parker, the original Spider-Man. Ms. Marvel joined the battle, but during it, with the detonation of a device designed byDr. Yesenia Rosario, Khan and Parker had their minds swapped.[14] Together, they pretended to be each other, including their daily life and vigilantism activities, in order to reverse the situation.[13] Back at the university, they saved Dr. Rosario from the Jackal. As a gesture of gratitude, she helped them normalize the condition, despite the possible dangers of repeating the process. This misadventure created a deep bond between the magnificent Ms. Marvel and the amazing Spider-Man.[132]

Eventually, Kamala Khan's father, Yusuf, learned from his wife Muneeba about his daughter's life as Ms. Marvel. Extremely worried about her safety, he ordered her to cease her activities as a super hero. She rejected his order and left home. Upon returning, she was horrified to find her parents disintegrate similarly to aliens she had been fighting in the last days.[133] Realizing she was being targeted by someone, Ms. Marvel was desperate to learn what had really transpired with her parents. Alongside Bruno, she was attacked by Discord, getting a hint of where her true parents were. Upon rescuing them, she was contacted by a society of aliens who declared Ms. Marvel was the "Destined One," their legendary hero.[134] Their missions was to bring Ms. Marvel to their planet to liberate their civilization from the Beast Legions. Her parents complied, as long they could accompany her. As such, all three emerged on planet Saffa, where Kamala was celebrated by its ruler,Maliq Zeer. However, her parents were suspicious of the ordeal, prompting Ms. Marvel to investigate the royal palace they were in. She met a prisoner,Cheb Hura, the Hope of the People, being tortured, and chose to break him free. The incident led Ms. Marvel to escape the planet on a spaceship with her parents and her newly made ally.[17] The craft was put down, crashing on the wilderness, but managing to find Cheb Hura's allies, the Free People. Maliq Zeer ravaged their hideout and captured Muneeba and Yusuf Khan. However, they were interrupted by the arrival of the Beast Legions.[135] To stop the monsters, the two factions of Saffa joined forces and had Kamala Khan enter the "Great Machine," from which Ms. Marvel acquired theStormranger, an advanced suit ofKree origin that reacted to her Inhuman genome. With her new piece of technology, Ms. Marvel managed to obliterate the Beast Legions using the Great Machine. Celebrated as a champion, Kamala Khan was sent back home with her parents. After her return, she was shocked to learn not only her parents had their memories about her life as Ms. Marvel erased by Cheb Hura, but also that her father was sick.[136] Iron Man could not present a cure for the condition, much to Ms. Marvel's disappointment. He explained the nature of her new suit, though, as a nanotech entity, which was crucial in enabling Ms. Marvel defeat the necromancerDeathbringer.[137]

Carol Danvers wished to help Kamala Khan address the novel situation with her parents, who did not tolerate her leaving the house without explanations. Under the pretense Khan participated in an internship, she could maintain her super hero adventures. Together, Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel investigated an incident involving a stolen piece of Kree technology fromDamage Control, which Ms. Marvel was supposed to supervise. The thief was revealed to beWalter Lawson, from Danvers' past.[138] He wished revenge against the Kree Empire, dragging the Marvels into his convoluted plot againstStarforce.[139] To stop him, Ms. Marvel destroyed thePsyche-Magnitron he constructed to bring about chaos. He was taken as a prisoner by the Kree. In the end, in order not to lie to her parents, Danvers actually enrolled Kamala in an internship program.[140]

Ms. Marvel became the leader of the Champions and decided to change their approach by expanding their reach to the entire globe, several squads operated simultaneously in different regions to have a bigger impact.[141] In a mission inDubai againstZzzax, Ms. Marvel was killed in action. The demon-lordMephisto happened upon Miles Morales, the Spider-Man, and offered a deal to reverse time and prevent the fatality. After accepting the offer, an innocent girl passed away in Ms. Marvel's place and Morales became tormented by the outcome, eroding his performance in the team and his relationship with Ms. Marvel.[27] She confronted him about the secret,[142] forcing the truth to come out. Both became immensely disappointed at their own decisions in the Champions and contemplated abandoning the group.[143] The Champions struggled due to this crisis, coinciding with the invasion of Earth as part of theWar of the Realms. They were assisted by the adult version of Cyclops, who encouraged his dear friend Ms. Marvel not to give up and maintain her good works.[9] Amid the invasion, the Champions clashed with theDísir. Their leader,Brün identified Ms. Marvel as an undead individual. Despite fending the Dísir off, Ms. Marvel was deeply affected by the encounter and resigned from being the leader of the Champions.[144] Without Ms. Marvel, the Champions were corrupted by Mephisto's spawn,Blackheart. The replica of Viv approached the former leader of the team for help. By revealing her true identity to Spider-Man and Nova, Ms. Marvel managed to reunite the original trio of young heroes to face the adversity.[145] In a major battle against the corrupted Champions, Ms. Marvel and her friends overpowered Blackheart. The victory finally had Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man and Nova be at peace with the recent disasters.[8]

As usual, Kamala Khan was exhausted by trying to balance her multiple responsibilities. Her friends Nakia and Zoe forced her to relax, but the trio was tackled by Discord and Lockdown.[146] They acted on orders ofUncle Brett, head ofRubicon, a company that employed mind control to gain influence. He wished to assimilate Ms. Marvel to acquire additional power. Thanks to the Stormranger, Ms. Marvel had enough resources to resist the villain, who had become the creature Monopoly. However, she realized that her suit exerted an influence over her acts.[147] Meanwhile, Iron Man had focused on researching Ms. Marvel's father's disease. He came to the conclusion it was related to his latent Inhuman genome and hadDoctor Strange perform surgery to cure him. During the operation, the clinic was ravaged by Mister Hyde. Ms. Marvel resisted him. During the heat of the battle, she stumbled upon Bruno and they shared their first kiss.[148] Hyde was able to torture Ms. Marvel using electricity. Once again, the Stormranger saved her life, but displayed extreme brutality in dealing with Hyde. Ms. Marvel rejected her enhancements, which assumed a humanoid form of its own.[149] In order to save Hyde from being murdered by Stormranger, Ms. Marvel fought it. Stormranger redirected her priorities and concluded she should eliminate Discord. In desperation, Ms. Marvel followed her, but was thrown into theHudson River.[150] Bruno went for her rescue, when they learned that Yusuf Khan needed a blood transfusion from Kamala to conclude the surgery. She chose to stop Stormranger first, which led the creature to burn her energy out and dissipate. Due to taking additional time for the transfusion, Kamala was informed by Doctor Strange her father would struggle with after-effects.[151]

Kamala's Law leads to a life on the run

ARoxxon'sDragon wreaked havoc in Kamala Khan's school to kill the environmentalistAilana Kabua. As Ms. Marvel, the heroine assembled the Champions to fight it, but Viv Vision sparked an explosion when in contact with the creature, destroying the entire school and gravely injuring some of its students, including Kamala herself, who was fell into a coma. Because of this tragedy,Senator Geoffrey Patrick passed theUnderage Superhuman Welfare Act, or "Kamala's Law", in honor of Kamala. The bill outlawed any individual under the age of twenty-one from operating as a superhero, save for under the condition that they be monitored by an experienced adult vigilante.C.R.A.D.L.E. was created to enforce the new law. Ironically, Kamala Khan outlawed her own activities as Ms. Marvel.[5] In her coma, Kamala was visited by her dearest friends. Upon waking up, she was outraged that her name was being used to ban heroism and intended to solve the problem on her own.[152] Ms. Marvel sent a message to the young, the "outlaw generation," that the Champions would not be deterred. Through a video call, she assembled the Champions with other heroes, who expressed diverging opinions about her actions. When trying to explain her reasons, but the meeting was ambushed by C.R.A.D.L.E., and Kamala witnessed in dismay as her friends tried to escape, while others were sadly apprehended, realizing that someone had sold them out.[153]

Ms. Marvel became one of the main targets of a C.R.A.D.L.E. unit led byDum Dum Dugan. She was hunted while, at the same time, became the main image of the law to the public.[154] An ally of her,Amulet,[155] was also hunted down by the agents, and they joined forces to escape capture while still patrolling Jersey City.[156] Dugan and Ms. Marvel were forced to team up, however, after noticing Rubicon was active again and harmed innocents. Discord had been assimilated by Monopoly, and, after being freed by Ms. Marvel, ultimately chose to abandon the life of crime. Inspired, Dugan covered Ms. Marvel's escape from C.R.A.D.L.E. claiming the city needed her. This led Kamala to learn Zoe Zimmer had exposed her location to C.R.A.D.L.E., the betrayal was explained by Zoe as a way to make Kamala realize she was endangering people with her actions.[157] The two friends recognized their faults and made peace with each other. Amidst this, during a school dance party, Stormranger self-rebuilt itself and attacked Ms. Marvel to get revenge. She was assisted by Amulet and her friends. Stormranger realized it would be destroyed again and retreated.[158]

On the run, the Champions also resisted C.R.A.D.L.E. however they could, unaware that Viv Vision, who was believed to have also died in the Roxxon incident, was the one who exposed their location.[159] Cyclops assisted the runaway group by giving them shelter with theMarauders, the naval rescue team from the mutant nation ofKrakoa, and disclosed the truth about Viv's participation.[160] While Ms. Marvel decided to return to the United States to resist the act, Viv decided to break the imprisoned Champions to make amends for her betrayal, which was justified by her intention of protecting her allies. The Champions reunited and charged against Patrick, with Ms. Marvel declaring he had hidden intentions about neutralizing Kabua that were connected to Roxxon. This led to the Kamala's Law to be paused.[161] Ms. Marvel led the Champions to fully stop Roxxon's manipulations, that involved the implementation of a social media app to sabotage youth activism.[162] Kamala was the obvious choice to infiltrate Roxxon due to her reputation as the main victim of teen vigilantism, but she could not bring herself to this taxing position. Instead, Spider-Man and Nova were assigned the mission, being coordinated under the scenes by Ms. Marvel.[163] Still, Kamala was pushed into the ruse contrary to her willing by Nova. She suffered with having to be part of Roxxon's propaganda, but was able to gain the trust of the supervisor,Miriam Blakemoore.[164] When Kamala Khan publicly had to endorse Roxxon and the Kamala's Law, she made a speech against them. As a result, the law that outlawed teenage heroes was officially repelled.[165] Roxxon retaliated, sparking a direct battle with their forces. Still, Roxxon was able to maintain their reputation due to their influence. Despite this, Ms. Marvel and the Champions decided commemorate their victory.[166]

Beyond the Limit[]

As part of a training session atAvengers Tower, Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man andSquirrel Girl faced an interloper, theGrowing Man. This coincided with Ms. Marvel having problems with her abilities. Back home, she was criticized by her parents for not paying enough attention to her family. Being in charge of taking care of her nephew, Malik, Kamala unwittingly gave him a toy that was in fact a miniature version of the Growing Man she had got through mail. Eventually, the Growing Man assumed his gigantic stature, bringing Ms. Marvel into action. Simultaneously, Ms. Marvel was attacked on the internet byMachinesmith, who had gained access to her by inciting her participation in fan fiction forums using false approval. He was the mastermind behind the incidents and blackmailed her into invading Avengers Towers to gain access to their confidential files. Alongside Nakia and Bruno, Ms. Marvel was able to corrupt Machinesmith's systems and deactivate the Growing Man, taking advantage of their obsolete pieces of technology. Iron Man created a replica of the Growing Man to please Malik in the end, which brought Kamala closer to her relatives.[167]

InChicago, Kamala visited her researcher cousinRazia, who investigated interdimensional travel. When Raiza failed to attend lunch with Kamala, she found her unconscious in her laboratory after being attacked by a mysterious invader, who escaped. By tampering with thePolchinski Box, Ms. Marvel experienced alternative possibilities of her life. Soon after, she returned home, only to find herself in a fantastical Bollywood scenario.[24] The bizarre setting dissipated as Ms. Marvel noticed her powers did not function properly. She was taken care of by her friends, Nakia, Bruno, and Zoe. They discovered a doppelgänger of Ms. Marvel had been acting in the city.[168] The imposter was revealed to be an interdimensional interloper namedQarin. Being welcomed by Kamala, Qarin oddly maintained the charade of mimicking her. Qarin ultimately accused Ms. Marvel of murdering her reality'sMs. Marvel, stealing her abilities after intercepting the lab invader and destroying her reality.[169] Ms. Marvel was assisted by her friend, the Wasp, who had been kept updated about the situation.[170] Bruno and the Wasp concluded that Ms. Marvel's powers interacted with other realities, borrowing mass from other versions of herself, connecting her to Qarin, which explained her faulty powers. They trapped Qarin and had Doctor Strange return her to her reality, ending her vengeful warpath. As a result, Ms. Marvel's powers normalized.[171]

Following a series of museum heists for antiquity item, Ms. Marvel predicted the next robbery and prepared in advance. She was shocked to cross paths with Red Dagger in her mission.[172] He had encountered the thief in Pakistan and decided to follow them. Not wanting to say goodbye again, Ms. Marvel proposed a team-up.[173] In the days that followed, the two shared interests and opinions during their investigation.[174] Before they could reveal their true identities to each other, Bruno pinpointed a heist in action, interrupting them.[175] Red Dagger recklessly engaged in battle against the thief, an evil entity namedCurio, who managed to knock out both vigilantes.[176] At the villain's mercy, Ms. Marvel was able to break free and overcharge his electric powers. Before saying goodbye to Red Dagger, she expressed the respect she felt for him and the understanding about how not sharing their civilian identities was important.[177]

Oscorp[]

Kamala Khan started a job as an intern forOscorp, the company owned byNorman Osborn, and started to have Peter Parker as a colleague.[22] Together, they developed a thrust engine.[178] The internship at the unscrupulous Oscorp caused Nakia to express objection, especially since Bruno had rejected the offer years prior. However, Kamala stood by her decision, expression if it were a mistake, it was hers to make. At Oscorp, Kamala and her co-workerArjun, who happened to have a crush on her, witnessed their equipment be possessed, a resulta demonic invasion. As Ms. Marvel, she combatted the creatures until coming across the perpetrator of the crisis,Chasm, who sent her to the realm ofLimbo.[179] Impressed by her power, the demons from Limbo chose to return her to Earth. In Jersey City, she found out that the mosque she attended had been possessed with her friends and family inside. Seeking to save them, she was confronted by an undead Inventor, who was accompanied by other bird-based clones of famous geniuses, theInventors. Overpowered by the avian creatures and the demonic invaders, Ms. Marvel was aided by Miles Morales, who protected the hostages. This allowed Ms. Marvel to take care of the Inventors, who retreated and abandoned the original one to take down their enemy by himself. By attaching a device on Ms. Marvel, the Inventor forced her powers to turn her into a worm-lke form that could be devoured. Bruno arrived at the site and activated an electromagnetic pulse to revert the effect, leading to the Inventor's death.[180]

The city was still engulfed in devilish chaos. Unable to find Parker, she ended up intervening withCodex andRed Goblin fightingBedlam to protect innocent lives.[181] She sent Bedlam away to stop the battle, only to discover thesymbiote heroes were just children. The trio of young ones tracked Bedlam to prevent more danger, with Ms. Marvel attempting to prevent any unnecessary death. Bedlam was summoned by the other bringer of the demonic invasion, theGoblin Queen. The three teenagers then discussed the dangerous decision to don the symbiotes and become heroes despite being young and inexperienced.[182] During the final battle between Spider-Man and the X-Men against Chasm with his partner,Hallow's Eve, Ms. Marvel arrived alongside Osborn, the Gold Goblin, to help. Ms. Marvel was able to take down Hallow's Eve, allowing the heroes to defeat Chasm and finally stop the demon invasion.[183]

At Oscorp, Khan demonstrated an interest on the Gold Goblin suit, earning Osborn's irritation as she kept an eye on him.[184] This involvement led Ms. Marvel to get involved with Parker's war against theEmissary, the harbinger of the evil deityWayeb'.[185] The Emissary had marked Spider-Man's allyMary Jane Watson as a sacrifice for a ritual to obtain his god's power. Spider-Man asked Ms. Marvel to protect Mary Jane. Using her shape-shifting abilities to impersonate Mary Jane and misdirect the Emissary, Ms. Marvel was caught off-guard and got mortally impaled by the villain. Although the deception tainted the ceremony, causing Wayeb' to kill the Emissary in retaliation, Ms. Marvel was unable to heal from her injuries and tragically passed away in a final heroic act.[15] The mourning for Ms. Marvel's death was twofold since her secret identity had not been disclosed post-mortem, and Kamala Khan was believed to be one of the many civilians that went missing or killed during Wayeb's attack. Sheikh Abdullah held the service at the mosque where family, friends, and teammates paid their respects. Notable figures that attended the ceremony were the Red Dagger, the Champions, the Avengers, Wolverine, Spider-Man, and Captain Marvel.[186]

New Mutant[]

Amazing Spider-Man Vol 6 26 Frank Second Printing Variant

Dying in Spider-Man's arms

Unbeknownst to the young heroine, and the world at large, Kamala Khan's genetic heritage was not exclusive to Inhumanity, she was also a mutant. Her X-gene had never manifested due to being suppressed by Terrigenesis. As part of establishing the sovereign nation of Krakoa, mutantkind had concocted aresurrection process to which every single mutant was automatically a beneficiary of under Krakoan law. As a mutant leader, Cyclops had been aware of Ms. Marvel's condition, but chose not to disclose it to preserve her secret identity. Following her demise, theFive carried out her return ritual and Ms. Marvel was welcomed to mutantkind by Cyclops andEmma Frost. The resurrection coincided with the preparations for the annualHellfire Gala, to which she was invited withProfessor Xavier hoping the publicly revelation of herdual heritage could improve Krakoa's international relations. However, the gala became the epicenter of a worldwide attack on mutants by the anti-mutant think tankOrchis. Ms. Marvel ended up being one of the few mutants who managed to survive and escape the mutant massacre.[30] The X-Men retreated to theMorlock Tunnels. Kamala Khan was returned home by Frost, who used both her telepathic powers and influential connections to erase all traces and records of Khan's death from her loved ones, protecting her identity. Despite Frost's urging not to involve Ms. Marvel with mutant affairs for her own safety, she joined the underground resistance that had become the X-Men as a new wave of anti-mutant sentiment backed by Orchis swept the globe.[23] She also met with Spider-Man, who explained and apologized for the circumstances surrounding her death; they departed in good terms after expressing their admiration for each other.[187]

Kamala Khan (Earth-616) from Ms. Marvel The New Mutant Vol 1 1 001

Suiting up as an X-Man

In the X-Men, Ms. Marvel earned enormous recognition with the time-travellerRasputin IV, who regarded her as a historical hero, but inKitty Pryde she experienced hostility, a veiled demonstration of her loss of faith. As the only X-Man who was not recognizable as a mutant, Ms. Marvel was tasked to infiltrate a summer program sponsored by Orchis at Empire State University to uncover a secret laboratory run byNitika Gaiha on the campus. She had Bruno's help in moving to the campus, during which she revealed the details of her death and resurrection to him. She shared a room with a student namedMichelle. While rescuing students from an escapedChitauri, Ms. Marvel donned anX-themed version of her super hero costume in hopes to temper the anti-mutant sentiment. Instead, she was harassed by anti-mutant students, catching the attention of Orchis' leaderOmega Sentinel.[40] She and Gaiha tracked for unusual frequencies, which denounced Ms. Marvel when she attempted to make contact with the leader of the X-Men,Synch. Iron Man rescued her from the drones Orchis deployed, bringing her to theHellfire Club. However, during the ordeal, she had a microscopic device implanted in her head as a psychic bomb.[188]

Being plagued by bizarre nightmares since her return, Kamala had Bruno's help as he used a machine to analyze her dreams while she slept.[188] Orchis' psychic bomb was then identified by Bruno, who hacked the drone and ended the program. During the trance she was in, Ms. Marvel resisted a mental trap Gahia had orchestrated. Despite surviving, Kamala was located by aSentinel.[189] Thanks to Bruno and Michelle developing a fusion bomb with the help of some remorseful students, Ms. Marvel destroyed the Sentinel. The Sentinel's remains crashed into Orchis' secret laboratory, destroying it and severely injuring Omega Sentinel, taking down their project. Despite Orchis' atrocities at the Hellfire Gala, Ms. Marvel rescued Omega Sentinel and took her to safety; an ungrateful Omega Sentinel gloated that Ms. Marvel would never be safe from Orchis. After reporting her findings to the X-Men and Frost, Kamala Khan returned home to Jersey City fully embracing her condition as a mutant. Frost returned the golden bangles to Kamala Khan, mentioning they were a gift from Spider-Man.[190]

In a mission to gain advantage resources against Orchis, the X-Men designed a machine using the High Evolutionary's research and Spider-Man's help to deactivate the harm caused by Krakoan corruptedmedicines. Despite Nimrod attempting to disturb their plan, the X-Men were able to slow him down in time to undo Orchis' damage.[191] During another assignment for the X-Men, Ms. Marvel uneasily teamed up with Wolverine and Pryde to gather data about renegade mutants who had escaped the diaspora inDoctor Doom'sLatveria.[192] In Doom and his mutant team, theSeven Daggers, the X-Men X-Men found allies against Orchis.[193] As the war against Orchis escalated, Ms. Marvel contacted Doctor Doom to summon the Seven Daggers to aid the X-Men in battle.[194]

Operating as an openly mutant vigilante, Ms. Marvel found Jersey City with their opinions divided and experienced random spasms that disturbed her powers. Orchis interrogated her friends, identified their connection to the hero of Jersey City, sparking controversy among them. Their hunt undermined Khan's life in every aspect, especially by developing the "Mutant Watch", an app aimed at reporting mutant sights. During a confrontation withHordeculture, Ms. Marvel was teleported to the safety of outer space byLila Cheney, who needed the help of one of the X-Men.[195] Under the identity of "Chord," Ms. Marvel helped Lila rescue her fans fromMojo inMojoworld and was returned to Jersey City, where she was greeted by the Red Dagger.[20] The two finally openly talked about their identities to each other before they were attacked by zombified corpses of the X-Men sent by Gaiha. With her powers being unreliable, Ms. Marvel only defeated the zombies thanks to the timely intervention of Medusa, Karnak, and Lockjaw.[196]

At the Inhumans' stronghold, Medusa and Karnak explained that Ms. Marvel was resurrected, the effects of Terrigenesis were not replicated, causing her revived body to deteriorate. To stabilize her condition and save her life, the Inhumans exposed her to another sample of the Terrigen Mists, once again preventing the manifestation of her mutant powers. Teleported back to Jersey City, Ms. Marvel found a zombie version of herself causing chaos in the city's mosque. Dr. Gaiha revealed herself, explaining that the duplicate was the reanimated corpse of her original body that had its X-gene activated. Having the mutant ability to generate hard light constructs, the creature was defeated by Ms. Marvel. However, victory was sour, devastating Kamala, since Gaiha fled into the night, Sheikh Abdullah was left in a coma, and Ms. Marvel's reputation in Jersey City plummeted.[197] However, Kamala managed to salvage her reputation and fall back into the public's trust again when the zombie Ms. Marvel's existence was exposed, although Kamala had to hide her mutant status to maintain cover. Kamala teamed up withMultitude to apprehend the Inventors and managed to stop their plans, but the Inventors escaped from them. Kamala later attended her high school homecoming dance and shared a dance with Bruno.[198]

During theGang War, Kamala was recruited byStarling as part of the reinforcements for Spider-Man (Miles) to defendBrooklyn from the gang violence.[199] After the War, Kamala joined Spider-Man in apprehending his nemesisRabble. She struck up a friendship with Spider-Man's cloneShift due to their similar powers and accompanied the two, Miles' sisterBillie andGanke Lee at an Art Walk in Brooklyn.[200]

As part of Peter Parker's contingency plan if Norman Osborn ever reverted back to hisGreen Goblin persona, Kamala led a group consisting of theWalking Brain,Curt Connors,J. Jonah Jameson,Doug Siravanta andRek-Rap to confront Osborn at his secret lair after he corrupted Spider-Man into becoming Spider-Goblin. Although Rek-Rap and the Brain were injured in the confrontation, Kamala and Connors were able to hold their own against Osborn, with Kamala arming herself withDoctor Octopus' old tentacles, until Spider-Man arrived to deal with his old foe. Kamala was prevented from intervening whenKraven the Hunter held Jameson and Siravanta hostage. Kamala defeated Kraven by herself while Spider-Man and Osborn were able to successfully purge the Goblin's influence from themselves.[201]

NYX[]

After the defeat of Orchis, Kamala started wearing her original uniform again and resumed her studies at ESU. She became acquainted with several other young mutants in the area, including her ESU classmateSophie Cuckoo, her Examinations of Post-Krakoan Diaspora professorProdigy,Lower East Side bartenderAnole and the maverickWolverine. While investigating the anti-mutant hate groupTruthseekers, Kamala fought theKrakoan, who accused her of being a traitor to mutantkind for protecting human civilians and for never having to live the "true" mutant experience.[202] Kamala and her new friends also began spending their free time at a mutant owned club inBushwick.[203] When Kamala and her mutant friends attended the vigil for a murdered mutant that was being protested by the Truthseekers, Kamala was dismayed to discover that her cousinBilal had embraced the Truthseekers' propaganda. Kamala and her friends prevented the Truthseekers from carrying out an attack on theMorlocks at their new home, but was put off by Wolverine's and Sophie's ruthless plans for the Truthseekers.[25]

Kamala eventually deduced the Krakoan's true identity to be Julian Keller and after following a pattern of assassinations he left behind throughout New York, she realized he was taunting her with a message that he will attackTimes Square next. Kamala brought these findings to Prodigy to help her stop the Krakoan as they were rivals during their time at theXavier Institute but he declined, prompting her to take Sophie with her instead to confront him, who was already waiting for her at Times Square. Kamala revealed to Sophie that she already knew she was secretly working with the Krakoan, but nonetheless reaffirmed her friendship with her. The Krakoan defeated Kamala and Sophie reluctantly helpedher sisters broadcast his threat to humans by using his victory over Ms. Marvel as an example. Prodigy unexpectedly arrived at the scene to incapacitate the Krakoan and helped Kamala recover and escape.[21]

With the fight between the Krakoan and Kamala and Prodigy being broadcasted worldwide, the city council proposed a bill that would relocate mutants into ghettos. Sophie met with Kamala and the others and revealed thatEmpath was behind everything and had been accelerating the anti-mutant sentiment in the city so that theNew York City Council--with many members under his control--would pass the bill enforcing mutant ghettos, allowing him to lead to a united mutant revolution against humans in order to bring forth another Krakoan Age that he can rule. Sophie confessed that Empath chose her out of her sisters to befriend Kamala in order to lure her into her public confrontation with the Krakoan and that Empath planned to have her killed to garner more anti-mutant backlash until Prodigy intervened. Refusing to stoop to Empath's level by fighting him, Kamala and the others organized a peaceful protest with their allies against a Truthseekers rally at theTreehouse. While Sophie used her powers to break her sisters' control over the city council atNew York City Hall, Ms. Marvel made an impassioned speech, revealing her mutant status and urging for peaceful coexistence between mutants and humans, which was broadcast byLocal. Due to Kamala's and Sophie's actions, the bill failed to pass, which Kamala and her friends celebrated.[204]

Kamala started hanging out atNYX and worked as a bodyguard there in her Ms. Marvel disguise. She noticed Bilal hanging out near the entrance and when she left the center to confront him, Bilal attacked her with high tech weaponry. Wearing a battle suit and riding aglider, Bilal called himself the Truthseeker and fought Ms. Marvel to scan her DNA. Ms. Marvel demanded why he attacked her and Bilal said that hiding the truth about herself made her a danger to her human loved ones, causing her to angrily throw him away and break down in tears.[205]

Following his escape from custody, Professor X approached NYX for help in recovering the last seed of Krakoa fromDoctor Doom only Kamala and Anole agreed to help him. The three tracked the seed at the Treehouse, which was under the control of Doom's forces, but encountered Mojo, who had taken the seed for himself. Xavier abandoned Kamala and Anole to deal with Mojo alone. The two were barely able to escape from Mojo but ended up taking a duplicate of the seed while Mojo kept the real one.[206]

When Mojo used the seed's powers to transform New York City into Mojo City and captured many inhabitants with its Krakoan physiology, Kamala and her friends rallied together to free the city from Mojo's influence and banished him back to hishome dimension. Bilal confronted the mutants to blame them for the damage done to the city, which prompted Kamala into revealing her identity to him. Bilal backed off but warned her to not tell her parents or she would break their hearts. Shaken by the ordeal, Kamala decided to stop calling herself a mutant and began distancing herself from her mutant friends.[207]

Giant-Size X-Men[]

Kamala Khan (Earth-616) from Giant-Size X-Men Vol 3 1 001

Kamala begins to awaken her mutant powers

While catching up with Bruno, Kamala was unexpectedly pulled back many years into the past to theX-Mansion, where she reunited with the younger Cyclops. After Cyclops vouched for her, Professor X added Ms. Marvel as part of the teamto rescue the captured X-Men on Krakoa and gave her a new uniform. En route to the island, thestratojet was attacked byLegion, who had traveled back in time to alter the timeline. Ms. Marvel awakened her mutant powers to fight off Legion and used both knowledge of the future and the Krakoan language to pacify Krakoa. When Legion fled, Ms. Marvel was then thrown forward in time to whenthe X-Men battled the Dark Phoenix.[208]

Kamala Khan (Earth-616) from Giant-Size Dark Phoenix Saga Vol 1 1 001

Kamala's mutant powers fully awaken

Somehow wearing her original outfit, Kamala joined forces with the X-Men, who remembered her from their mission to Krakoa, but thePhoenix Force abandonedPhoenix to merge with Legion, who then fled into space. While the X-Men recuperated from the battle, Kamala and Jean privately spoke to each other about their fears and insecurities. Just as Jean sensed that the Legion was coming back to Earth for Kamala, as he and Kamala were somehow bound to time travel together,Professor X ordered theX-Men to joinShi'arEmpress Lilandra and herImperial Guard at theBlue Area of the Moon to intercept the Dark Phoenix. The Dark Phoenix defeated the X-Men and Imperial Guard, leaving only Kamala and Jean. Out of desperation, Kamala was able to fully awaken her hard-light powers, which managed to trap Legion. However, the Phoenix Force managed to escape but before it could possess Kamala, Jean willingly allowed it to return to her body and sacrificed herself. With his plan thwarted, an enraged Legion attempted to drag Kamala to the future, but accidentally took them tothe wrong timeline.[209]

As Legion was depowered after the Phoenix Force abandoned him, he and Kamala sought out theX-Men of that era together to find a way to travel back to their own timelines. Kamala spoke withRogue to explain her past but when she confessed that she wished she weren't a mutant, Rogue gave her a pep talk encouraging her to accept and embrace her mutant side while also revealing that theM'kraan Crystal could help send Kamala back to her time. Kamala joined the X-Men in attackingApocalypse's base for the Crystal and battled theInfinites; Kamala was shaken when an Infinite she defeated was analternate version of herself. Unfortunately, Legion turned on the X-Men when he claimed the Crystal for himself and began attacking and killing X-Men and Infinites alike while also tearing apart the timeline. With her own mutant powers augmented by the Crystal, Kamala confronted Legion just as Apocalypse arrived. Legion announced his intentions to kill theScarlet Witch and fled toanother timeline, dragging Kamala with him.[210]

Kamala ended up in a reality wheremutants ruled over humans and encounteredKate Pryde at her school inCincinnati. AfterLayla Miller restored the main heroes' memories of the real world, Kamala joined them on their mission to kill the Scarlet Witch but warned them of Legion's arrival. However, she was too late to stop Legion from forcing the Scarlet Witch todepower most of the mutant population. After talking with Pryde about the prejudices they faced for being outed as mutants, Kamala realized that Legion had stolen the power Scarlet Witch too from the mutants and had the X-Men send her back to her own timeline, where Legion would be waiting for her.[211]

Back in the main reality, Kamala briefly reunited with Bruno and quickly brought him to speed before confronting Legion. Legion used his powers to discover that Kamala possessed Krakoan DNA that made her body function like a portal, explaining why she was always dragged along with him whenever he traveled. Due to Kamala's time traveling, Cyclops, Wolverine,Phoenix, Rogue and Shadowcat retained their memories of Kamala's battle with Legion and arrived to help fight him. After Legion was defeated, Kamala gave him some comforting words before she and Phoenix sent him to theWhite Hot Room to be reunited withDavid Haller. The X-Men left before Ms. Marvel was interviewed by a news station where she reaffirmed her allyship with them. Afterwards, Kamala returned home and revealed her identity and her mutant status to her family.[212]

Kamala later attended the Hellfire Vigil in Central Park, where she reunited and made amends with her friends from NYX.[213]

Attributes

Power Grid[228]

Powers

Mutant-Inhuman Hybrid Physiology: Kamala possessesInhuman lineage while also being amutant, formerly dormant, with each side of her mixed heritage giving her unique powers.[30]

  • Inhuman Physiology: Kamala'sInhuman powers were activated by theTerrigen Bomb, causing her to become apolymorph, which grants her the following abilities:
    • Morphogenetics:[214] Kamala's cells manifest mutable properties due to the fact that she is able to share her mass through time with different versions of herself. On a molecular level, Ms. Marvel time-travels whenever she uses her powers.[129] Kamala can stretch, deform, expand, or compress her entire body or parts thereof into any contiguous shape she can imagine for a variety of uses:
Kamala Khan (Earth-616) from Ms. Marvel Vol 3 3 001

Kamala enlarging herself

      • Elongation: Kamala can extend her limbs, torso, or neck to great distances.[45]
      • Size Alteration: Kamala can adjust her height and stature adding upon her already impressive physical abilities,[citation needed] from shrinking to the size of an action figure,[11] to grow as tall as a building structure (Over 100 feet tall)[36][51] With this ability she has also made her body as thin as paper.[52]
      • Accelerated Healing: Kamala is capable of rapidly healing from injuries such as bullet wounds; however, use of her other powers interrupts the healing process, requiring Kamala to maintain her normal appearance while recovering.[31] Extensive healing also leaves Kamala heavily-fatigued and hungry;[16] although, it appears the more she utilizes her healing ability, the less malleable her cells become, which prevents her from utilizing the full range of her morphogenic abilities.[18]
      • Appearance Alteration: Kamala possesses the power to alter her physical appearance including her hair and clothing,[32] and could even alter her appearance enough to mimic inanimate objects.[32] Ms. Marvel feared she had lost this ability due to her healing factor reducing the elasticity of her cells,[214] but this power is still present and is used on rare occasions, such as when she impersonatedJames Rhodes during a conversation withTony Stark,[215] or when she impersonatedMary Jane Watson in order to protect her from theScribble Man.[15]
    • Bioluminescence: Kamala's body emits a glowing yellow energy signature when using her morphogenic powers.[11]
  • Mutant Physiology: Originally, Kamala's power from hermutation remained dormant, withCharles Xavier believing that Kamala having her Inhuman powers activate first ended up suppressing her mutant powers. Xavier noted that unlike other mutants, Kamala was able to make contact with theTerrigen Mist storm without suffering anyill effects.[30]Emma Frost surmised that Kamala's mutation functions differently than her Inhuman abilities and could either work separately from them or potentially replace said abilities entirely, but that choice would be up to Kamala.[190] Due to being resurrected without properly undergoing Terrigenesis, Kamala had to expose herself to Terrigen Mists again to prevent her resurrected body from disintegrating but doing so also kept her mutant powers further dormant for an unforeseen amount of time. When Kamala's original body was reanimated as a zombie byDr. Nitika Gaiha, her original body's mutant power was also activated.[197] Kamala was eventually able to awaken her mutant powers while fightingLegion in the past, giving her the following abilities:[208]
Kamala Khan Zombie (Earth-616) from Ms. Marvel- Mutant Menace Vol 1 4 001

A reanimated version of Kamala using her mutant powers

    • Hard Light Constructs: Kamala's mutant power allows her to create matter in any shape out of solidified light. Due to herconstructs acting as an extension of her body, Kamala can use her mutant hard-light abilities alongside her Inhuman polymorphing abilities.[197] The color and texture of the hard-light was purple and smooth when emitted by Kamala's zombified body[197] but was gold and sparkling when Kamala naturally awakened her powers for the first time.[208] Her hard-light eventually took on its original purple colored appearance.[209] It eventually took on a smooth, purple diamond-patterned appearance that also had a multicolored sparkling effect.[212]
      • Hard Light Exoskeleton: Kamala can encase parts of or her entire body with her hard light constructs, creating a solid-light exoskeleton shielding herself that greatly enhances her durability and strength. This ability can be used in conjunction with her embiggening powers, further increasing the strength and concussive force of her enlarged limbs when encased with hard light.[197][208]
      • Hard Light Shields: Kamala can generate powerful shields and barriers made from her hard light. Her hard light force fields are shown to be durable enough to containLegion, anOmega-level mutant who was also empowered by thePhoenix Force. However, her hard light barrier couldn't contain the Phoenix Force itself when it took on its psionic form.[209]

Krakoan DNA: According toLegion, Kamala hasKrakoan DNA embedded in her genes, giving her additional abilities in conjunction to her Inhuman and Mutant ones.[212]

  • Portal Creation: Due to possessing unique Krakoan DNA, Kamala's body acts similarly to aKrakoan Gateway, basically making her a living portal. Kamala uses her embiggening powers to shape her body into a doorway, presumably allowing herself or anyone who passes though toteleport anywhere.[212]
    • Time Travel: Kamala is capable of traveling to other periods in time, including the past and future with her Krakoan DNA.[212]
    • Dimensional Travel: Kamala is capable of traveling to other realities and dimensions with her Krakoan DNA. Originally, Kamala had no control over her destination due to being tied with Legion. So far, the only destination Kamala was able to intentionally create a portal was theWhite Hot Room with help fromPhoenix's cosmic flames.[212]

Weaknesses

  • Electromagnetic Pulses: Ms. Marvel's body is vulnerable to EMPs, which can weaken her elasticity.[49]
  • Overexerted Healing: Overuse of her healing factor temporarily weakens Ms. Marvel's elasticity powers.[18]
  • Quantum Hijacking: Due to the spread nature of her powers across the quantum manifestations, Kamala's power works like wi-fi. If someone else is connected, they can pull the mass transference to themselves, rather than let Kamala have it, and send images into Kamala's mind.[171]
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: Despite not remembering her second death at the hands of the Scribble Man,[187] Kamala refuses to shapeshift into another form due to the event, to the point of aggression.[216]

Paraphernalia

Equipment

  • Biokinetic Polymer Suit: Invented byBruno as part of his scholarship application toRutgers University, when the polymer (or "super snot") is applied to a flexible substance, the substance becomes extremely malleable.[36] The increased elasticity allows Ms. Marvel to focus less on transforming her clothing during her metamorphoses.[16] Unfortunately, the suit is highly susceptible to damage by exposure to water.[217]
    • X-Uniform: After joining theX-Men, Ms. Marvel updated her polymer suit with a new design that resembled theX-Uniforms.[23]
  • Compartment Bracelet: A series of bangles with hollow compartments inside, modified by Bruno into a single bracelet worn on Kamala's left arm to hold her cell phone and other small items.[3] They were originally used by Kamala's great-grandmotherAisha to smuggle money out ofBombay during Partition,[4] and had since been passed down toher daughter and granddaughter, Muneeba.[218]
  • Locator Pendant: A gift fromCaptain Marvel during the incursion,[58] this necklace allowed Kamala to signal Carol in an emergency with just the push of a button;[69] however, it was discarded outside of theJersey City Medical Center as a result of their falling out over thesecond superhero civil war.[3] It was later rediscovered, but it is unknown if Kamala reclaimed it after repairing her friendship with Carol.[115]
Former Equipment
  • Kree Nanosuit: A special costume worn by Kree Stormranger 20-14, a member of the Kree whom theSaffans claimed as their "Destined One". The suit was left behind on a special space station used by the former slave masters of the Saffans with the intent of another Stormranger retrieving it. While it is designed for those with Kree blood, this seems to also extend to Inhumans. The full extent of the suit is of yet unknown.[136] Kamala's Stormranger suit acquireda mind of its own and tried to force Kamala to killDiscord andMister Hyde.[147][149] When Kamala refused to comply, the Stormranger suit separated from her and attempted to kill Hyde and Joshua on its own. Kamala fought her former costume, which seemingly self-destructed after overclocking.[219]
  • Doctor Octopus' Old Tentacles: Kamala was briefly given Doctor Octopus' old tentacles byDoctor Curt Connors to use against theGreen Goblin andKraven the Hunter.[220]
