"Sixth Cosmos" is the denomination given to the sixthiteration of existence and fifthMultiverse. It is a defunct Multiverse that no longer exists. It came after the end of theFifth Cosmos. It was the Multiverse before the current one.^[1][2]

The Sixth Cosmos was devoted to science and is said to be where the very concept was invented.^[1][3] One of its planets wasTaa, inhabited by the advancedTaa-ans. Among the Taa-ans were the Scienceers, the closest they had to super heroes.^[3] The exact cause of the Sixth Cosmos' demise isdisputed, but in all accounts, Taa was one of the last worlds remaining and sent out one last group of explorers, including its would-be last survivor.^[4][5][6]

As part of therenewal cycle, after the Sixth Cosmos ended, it was replaced by theSeventh Cosmos.^[7][1] One of its inhabitants,Galan of Taa, survived the end of time and became Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds, in the next cycle.^[4][6]

Between each multiversal cycle, there is a period of nothingness before the start of the next cycle. Many entities that plagued the next cycle are said to have lived in this existential chasm, such asKnull.^[8]

• Celestials^[7][9]
  • The Celestials are from theFirst Cosmos. They started themultiversal cycles and have passed on to every incarnation.^[7][9] They are also involved in the creation process at the start of each cycle.^[10]

• Omnimax^[2]
  • Omnimax is from theFifth Cosmos. Formerly named Moridun, he passed on to the Sixth Cosmos as itsDevourer of Worlds.
• Taa-ans^{[4][5][11][6][3][12]}
  • Taaia^[2]
    • Taaia is currently displaced to theEighth Cosmos.^[13][14]
  • Galan^[4]
    • Galan passed on to theSeventh/Eighth Cosmos as Galactus.^[4]
  • Aala^[11]
• Black Winter^[15]
  • The Black Winter passed on to the Seventh/Eighth Cosmos.^[15]
• Leviathan^[16]
  • The Leviathan's fragments passed on to the Seventh/Eighth Cosmos.^[16]

    • This is due toAdventures of the X-Men #12, which depicts the origin of Galactus after theM'kraan Crystal is shattered. However, it has many inconsistencies with other depictions of the Sixth Cosmos and the end of the Sixth Cosmos has been retconned many times since then, thus putting its canonicity into question.

• Galactus' origin story has been retconned and reinterpreted many times. Thus, there are many conflicting accounts on how his universe was destroyed:
  • A natural Big Crunch.^[17][18]
  • TheM'kraan Crystal being shattered.^[19][20]
  • Celestial overpopulation.^[21] (Only applicable to theEarth X continuity.)
  • TheGalactus Seed.^[22]
  • TheBlack Winter.^[23][15] (This is the most recent retcon.)
• Galactus was traditionally the "sole survivor,"^[4][24][25] but this idea has been challenged and contradicted over the years.History of the Marvel Universe (Vol. 2) #1 instead states that he is the sole "human" (technicallyTaa-an) survivor.
• It was previously assumed that the sentience of the previous universe was named Eternity,^[17] his previous incarnation, but it is later established that each cycle is embodied by acompletely different being with a different identity.^{[7][1][26][9]}
• In the depiction of the Sixth Cosmos inThor (Vol. 6) #2, it resembles the DC Universe.
• TheSeventh/Eighth Cosmos are usually treated as one, so when characters reference the previous Multiverse, they are generally referring to the Sixth Cosmos, even in the Eighth Cosmos.^[27]
