History
Gameworld was a planetoid-sized casino where the worst kind of people throughout the universe came to gamble and wagger on almost everything, which mostly included the fates of entire planets. Gameworld was located near twoblack holes which slowed time, allowing people inside to spend an entire month while only a single day would pass outside. Once the games finished, the results weretelepathically broadcasted to the participants. Security was made up of psi-dampeners andandroids acting as psi-alarms to prevent psychics from interfering with the games.
Gameworld was originally owned byMojo who wished to use its earnings to sponsorMojoworld, but was forced to relinquish it toCordyceps Jones after the sentient fungal infection took over the casino. After themutants colonizedMars and renamed it toArakko,[1] Cordyceps Jones set bets on anyone who can destroyEarth. To his dismay, all alien threats sent to exterminatehumanity were squashed by theX-Men.[2]
Upon learning that Gameworld was behind the various alien attacks on Earth, the X-Men sentWolverine,Marvel Girl,Polaris andRogue to infiltrate the casino and bring it down. Despite their best efforts to blend in, Cordyceps found out about their presence and attacked them by infecting as many people present as possible. To free the infected, Jean gave Rouge her powers so she could extract all of Cordyceps' spores from his victims' bodies. Polaris then used her heightened magnetic powers to isolate all of the spores and imprison them inside a metallic bubble. With Cordyceps out of the picture, all of Gameworld's slaves were freed, and the attendants without a criminal background were allowed to take over the casino and turn into a harmless establishment that didn't threaten planets.[3]
The X-Men subsequently used Gameworld to store their deposits of the rare metalmysterium, in turn using the metal itself as payment to have the casino handle the logistics of it. WhenIron Man set out to use mysterium to fabricate a countermeasure against theStark Sentinels deployed on Earth byFeilong to perscute mutantkind,Emma Frost took him to Gameworld so they could steal the mysterium. Although they found themselves caught in the crossofire of a group of would-be heisters' own attempt to steal the mysterium, Iron Man and Emma Frost managed to secure it, and hadStarfox deliver it to theDwarves ofNidavellir for forging.[4]Residents
