History
Early Years[]
Christopher Summers was born inAnchorage,Alaska, toPhilip andDeborah Summers.[7] He was raised in a loving household that valued aviation and service, heavily influenced by his father, a decoratedWorld War II pilot who flew the P-51 Mustang. Inspired by his father's legacy, Christopher pursued a similar path and enlisted in theU.S. Air Force, where he distinguished himself and rose to the rank of captain.[7] Following his military career, Christopher returned home to Anchorage, where he joined the family business, a cargo airline operated by theSummers Family.[7][8] He marriedKatherine Anne, and together they had two sons:Scott andAlex. The family enjoyed a stable and affectionate life, often spending their vacations visiting Christopher’s parents.[9][10]
Abduction by the Shi'ar[]
While Christopher Summers flew the family back from a vacation in his plane, it was attacked and set ablaze by a scout ship from the alienShi'ar Empire. Christopher's wifeKatherine pushed their sons,Scott andAlex (later Cyclops and Havok of theX-Men) out with the only parachute.[10]
On the scout ship Chris managed to escape and looked for Katherine. He found that she had been made part of EmperorD'Ken's 'harem' and was being assaulted by D'Ken. D'Ken killed Katherine in front of a helpless Christopher. Unknown to Christopher or his wife at the time, she was pregnant. Emperor D'Ken rippedthe baby from her in front of Christopher. Unknown to Chris, D'Ken had the baby incubated and matured him into adulthood and sold him into slavery.[10][11][12]
Starjammers[]
Corsair was sentenced to work in the mine pits until death, but again managed to escape with a few other prisoners. Stealing a spaceship, theStarjammer, they called themselves theStarjammers. The Starjammers committed piracy attacking Shi'ar vessels. Christopher modeled himself after tales of pirates onEarth and took the name of Corsair. Corsair was in a romantic relationship withHepzibah, a fellow Starjammer.[11][13]
Corsair was eventually reunited with his son, Cyclops, when the X-Men ventured into space to repair theM'kraan Crystal.Phoenix noticed similarities between the two and telepathically discovered their connection, but Corsair made her swear not to tell Scott.Storm also learned of Corsair's real identity.[14]
Months later, Corsair crash-landed on Earth near theXavier's School for Gifted Youngsters while being chased bySidri hunters. Scott found him, discovering that Corsair carried a picture of the family. Christopher explained that he and Katherine doubted that Scott and Alex had survived the fall. After her death, he thought returning to Earth would be too painful.[15]
Corsair was instrumental in rescuing Prof. Xavier from theBrood Queen that was inside of him by using the medical facilities on the Starjammer to transfer Prof. Xavier's mind into a clone body.[16] Corsair had a secret conversation withProfessor X around this time aboutGabriel, the third child he and Katherine had. Scott then introduced Corsair to his other son, Alex and Chris, in turn, introduced Scott with his grandparents.[12][8]
Scott proposed to his first wife,Madelyne, on the deck of the Starjammer and Chris attended the wedding. After Scott and Alex decided to stay on Earth, Corsair returned to Shi'ar space and frequently aided the X-Men from time to time while running from the Shi'ar Empire and bounty hunters.[17]
AfterMagik of theNew Mutants teleported to Professor Xavier, battled theMagus. Magik also informed Corsair that he was a grandfather.[18]
Vulcan[]
When the X-Men came to Shi'ar space to stop his son Gabriel, now called Vulcan, from slaughtering the Shi'ar, Corsair and the Starjammers agreed to help. Confronting Gabriel, who was poised to become Emperor after killing D'Ken, Corsair ordered his child to stop the carnage. Bitterly declaring that he had no father, Gabriel murdered Corsair in cold blood. His place as leader of the Starjammers was then taken by his son, Alex.[19]
The Trial of Jean Grey[]
When theGuardians of the Galaxy and thepast X-Men tried to follow the Shi'ar, who had abducted theJean Grey of the past to put her on trial for the crimes of the Phoenix, they were discovered and attacked. During the battle, they ran across the Starjammers, who saved them from the Shi'ar, and revealed to have a living Corsair back as their leader.[6]
Cyclops[]
After the rescue operation, Corsair's time-displaced teenage sonCyclops, having thought his father dead, decided to join the Starjammers.[20] Having captured a hostile Badoon ship, Corsair took command of it together with his son, to explore space, leaving the Starjammers.[21]
Thanos' funeral andFaithless[]
Following the death ofThanos, Corsair and the other Starjammers attended at his funeral whereEros revealed to the attendants that Thanos had transferred his mind into another body. However, theBlack Order crashed in and stole Thanos' body, while opening a rift in space sucking in everyone.[22] Luckily, the Starjammers were saved byNorrin Radd, getting them out of the rift.[23]
The Starjammers were then captured by afuture Universal Church of Truth lead byPatriarch, and used them to empower their temple. Thankfully, the Starjammers, along with the Guardians of the Galaxy, were saved byRocket Raccoon, who reprogramed the ship's engine to banish the church totheir original timeline. Afterwards, they paid a visit to a recovering Rocket at a hospital.[24]
They then accompanied theNew Mutants to Shi'ar space in order for the team to leavea plant and form aGateway, connectingKrakoa with the Shi'ar. However, the Starjammers, unbeknownst to the Mutants, planned to steal a relic from the Shi'ar. When they infiltrated the empire, the New Mutants followed behind them, ruining their plans. The Starjammers decided to leave the Mutants behind, while they escaped, not knowing thatWolfsbane switched the relic the pirates wanted to steal with a container.[25]
Annihilation - Scourge[]
When theVoid, disguised as Sentry, lead the Forces of theCancerverse to attack theNegative Zone, the Starjammers, along with other heroes, came to aid in the battle, after being called by theFantastic Four. In the end, the Void remerged withBob Reynolds, whileNova sacrificed himself in order to defeat the evil forces.[26]
Abandoned[]
For unknown reasons the Starjammers abandoned Corsair, and left with no crew he began working alone. OnGameworld, Corsair heard of a map that could lead to a moon whereOdin imprisonedAsgardian insurgents, one of which took a precious feather from one of Odin'sravens. He set out to buy it so he could claim the feather, but theBlack Order got their hands on it before him and began kidnapping patrons from Gameworld to force them to excavate on that moon.[27] Corsair chased the Black Order on ship, only to be shot down, forcing him to retreat. Having heard that his daughter-in-law was operating in space he went to her for help. Wanting her to assist him in claiming the feather, Corsair lied to Jean by telling her he was chasing the Black Order to save their kidnapped victims and asked for her help in fighting them. However, upon arriving at the moon and facing the Black Order, Corsair and Phoenix were faced by theDraugr.[28]
As the duo faced the zombie Asgardians, Jean asked Corsair to protect her body while she went to theAstral Plane to talk the consciousness of the Asgardians. She managed to grant them all peace, causing the zombies to disperse which allowed Corsair to finally get the feather. Jean confronted Corsair for lying to her, and he tried to explain himself before apologizing to her. The Black Order soon reappeared, only for Phoenix to make quick work of each of them, forcing them to flee. Jean forgave Corsair for lying to her, though she did task him to return the kidnapped aliens to Gameworld.[27]
While roaming throughKree/Skrull space, Corsair learned thatDr. Xanto Starblood and his crew of space pirates were planning to capture his son Cyclops to use him to get to the Phoenix.[29] Corsair went to warn Cyclops, but the space pirates caught notice of him and chased him to Earth, arriving at the exact location of their target. Before he crashed, Corsair was found by Cyclops and his X-Men and attempted to tell him what was happening.
In that moment, Starblood's crew arrived and began attacking them, forcing Cyclops and the X-Men to teleport inside their Acanti ship and leaving Corsair behind on theMarauder withKid Omega andTemper. Mid fight, Corsair had Kid Omega connect his mind to Cyclops to tell him telepathically that the space pirates were after him.[2] Thankfully,Department H'sAlpha Flight intervened and assisted the X-Men in defeating the aliens and capturing them. Corsair would later have the Kree/Skrull Empire arrest Xanto and the space pirates to collect their bounties.[29]Attributes
