Creators and Appearances

First

We are now...Beyond. It is from this incomprehensibly featureless level that the unknowableBeyonders observe our universe... occasionally intervening to the extent of allowing the creation of aCosmic Cube--of aKubik--or aKosmos. This is the plane of ourprogenitors.

TheBeyond is an unobservable spaceoutside theMultiverse.[7] It is the remnants of theSecond Cosmos and is inhabited by theBeyonders.[1]

History

TheSecond Cosmos was the firstMultiverse to ever exist, created in the aftermath of theCelestial War. TheCelestials created servitors called theOmegas to help them manage the Multiverse. After the death of the Second Cosmos, theThird Cosmos was born. The Celestials entered the next Multiverse to observe it from within, while the Omegas stayed outside of it in the remnants of the Second Cosmos. They continued maintenance from beyond the Multiverse, and so the Omegas became known as the Beyonders and their home became known as the Beyond.[1]

Throughout the years, the Beyonders observed theuniverses within theSeventh Cosmos, occasionally intervening to allow the creation ofCosmic Cubes by creating pockets of sentient energy.[8] Two of these sentient Cosmic Cubes,Kubik andKosmos, ascended fromtheir universe and ventured into the Beyond, as Kubik wanted to teach Kosmos the secrets of existence. By going outside the Beyond, the duo ended up returning to their home reality throughits quantum level.[9]

A portal to the Beyond was opened byJason Quantrell using aSkorpion Gate but he accidently let arogue Beyonder into the Multiverse.[4]

During the Beyonders'big experiment to end the Multiverse, they opened a crack from Beyond to enter the Multiverse. TheMultiversal Avengers confronted them but were annihilated.[10] Later,Doctor Doom, theMolecule Man, andDoctor Strange lured the Beyonders out of the Beyond before unleashing a bomb made with kidnappedMolecule Men to destroy them and steal their power.[7][11]

After the Multiverse's rebirth as theEighth Cosmos,[12] theDefenders entered the Beyond in their journey into the Mystery outside the Multiverse.[1]

Notes

  • This location should not be confused with the "Beyond-realm" that theBeyonder grew up in.
    • To elaborate, theBeyonder race was first mentioned inMarvel Two-In-One #63 (1980). A mysterious entity called the "Beyonder" was later introduced inMarvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #1 (1984). Despite their similar names, there was no direct connection between them andSecret Wars II established that the Beyonder was everything in his realm. Then,Fantastic Four #317319 connected them and retconned much ofSecret Wars II: the Beyonders, who live in a completely different universe from the Beyonder, created pockets of sentient energy which get used by certain species to createCosmic Cubes; the "Beyond-realm" was one of them.
    • Future retcons changed the Beyonder into a child version of the Beyonders.[13] The Beyond-realm and others like it became "womb-spaces" where the Beyonders keep their young before they grow up and live with the other mature Beyonders.[1]
