Synopsis for "The Case"
Maria Hill andCaptain America hold a press conference explaining thatBruce Banner has been detained by S.H.I.E.L.D. after a Hulk incident at Avengers Tower.
Four hours earlier: Bruce arrives at Avengers Tower with a briefcase and tells security drones to letTony Stark know he’ll be waiting for him in a conference room. When Tony enters, Bruce asks him about the purpose of this larger-scale iteration of the Avengers that he has created. He reveals to Tony that he infiltrated the team of variant Avengers and learned something crucial. AfterA.I.M. re-captured the variants and sent them to another universe, theScientist Supreme told Bruce that A.I.M. thinks the multiverse is dying. Bruce then Hulked out, trashed A.I.M. Island, and came to Avengers Tower.
Bruce then shares the dots he’s connected. Tony staying on Earth while the new, larger Avengers team fought the Builders in space; the unfinished Dyson Sphere that could still be weaponized; tech that bears design signatures not only from Tony, but fromReed Richards,T’Challa, andBeast as well. Seething with anger, Bruce says it all points to the Illuminati being reformed. Tony says Bruce is right.
His suspicions confirmed, Bruce pulls a vial of tranquilizers from his case and injects himself. He demands the truth from Tony. As Tony tells him about the incursions and the world-destroying weapons he has amassed, Bruce doses himself again and again. He trembles with rage and asks Tony what he expects him to do. Tony says Bruce can keep dosing himself, or he can be the Worldbreaker.
Hours later, Iron Man attaches a neural dampener to the back of Banner’s head and turns him over to S.H.I.E.L.D.
Epilogue 1: Sometime later in the Necropolis, Tony tells Bruce not to feel too bad about having his variant locked away and welcomes him to a meeting of the Illuminati.
Epilogue 2: The Explorer-classAdaptoids travel through the space between universes when they come upon a floating city populated by beings that look strikingly like Adaptoids. They reveal themselves to be Mapmakers and welcome the Adaptoids into their number.
