       gettimeofday — get the date and time

SYNOPSIS        top

       #include <sys/time.h>       int gettimeofday(struct timeval *restricttp, void *restricttzp);

DESCRIPTION        top

       Thegettimeofday() function shall obtain the current time,       expressed as seconds and microseconds since the Epoch, and store       it in thetimevalstructure pointed to bytp.  The resolution of       the system clock is unspecified.       Iftzp is not a null pointer, the behavior is unspecified.

RETURN VALUE        top

       Thegettimeofday() function shall return 0 and no value shall be       reserved to indicate an error.

       No errors are defined.The following sections are informative.

EXAMPLES        top

       None.

APPLICATION USAGE        top

       Applications should use theclock_gettime() function instead of       the obsolescentgettimeofday() function.

RATIONALE        top

       None.

FUTURE DIRECTIONS        top

       Thegettimeofday() function may be removed in a future version.
