Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

The Northrop Grumman/Bellcom VF-0 Phoenix variable fighter was an advanced limited production prototype for theVF-1 Valkyrie which served as a flight test unit, later becoming a frontline fighter in 2008 before mass production commenced in November 2008. It was developed withOvertechnology obtained from the massive alien space shipASS-1 that crashed on Earth back in the year 1999.

In most respects, the VF-0 resembled the VF-1, although its legs were longer because it was outfitted with an EGF-127 turbofan engines used by conventional fighter jets that were larger and bulkier than the intended thermonuclear engines which were not rolled out in time. Numerous fine details also differ between units, such as head designs. The VF-0D's wings were also very different, replacing the variable sweep wings with a canard-delta configuration. Though it showed positive performance data, it would ultimately not be adopted for the VF-1.

The VF-0's maximum speed is Mach 2.74 at 11,000 m (36,000 ft) above sea level altitude, using variable intake slats rather than a single variable intake ramp to slow the onrushing air to subsonic velocity Because it uses conventional turbofan engines instead of thermonuclear turbines, the VF-0 cannot function well in space although it can operate for short periods of time underwater. The VF-0's armament was virtually identical to the VF-1's but slightly older in design.

Several VF-0s under the command ofRoy Focker, were deployed from the aircraft carrierCVN-99 Asuka II. Many were destroyed during combat in the South Pacific againstAnti-U.N. Forces pilotingSV-51 variable fighters in early 2008.

The VF-0 was replaced by the VF-1 Valkyrie around late 2008 to early 2009.

• Howard three-barrel GPU-9 35mm gatling gun pod featuring adjustable rate-of-fire for 60/1,250/2,500 rounds-per-minute, driven by a 90-horsepower electric motor, muzzle velocity 1,100 m/s (550 rounds total, capable of utilizing heavy armor-piercing or AHEAD ammunition) x 1

Bombs & Missiles:

• Underwing variable pylon hard points for 12 x standard Raytheon Bifors AIM-200A AMRAAM 2 I/ALH-guided medium-range air-to-air missiles (three-missile racks, 1/point) x 1
• GH-28A 8-tube general-purpose micro missile launchers (capable of firing 3 volleys) x 4
• HAIM-95A medium-range maneuverability missile launcher pods originally used in attack craft equipment (special attack/assault specification) x 2
• or a combination of above load-outs

Optional Armament:

• External atmospheric combat super parts/conformal fuel tank FAST Pack with 24 x Raytheon Erlikon GH-30B I/IR-guided micro-missiles each (mounted one per leg/engine nacelle); 1 x standard gun pod spare magazine stored in super part x 2
• Augmentative pylons welded to the conformal fuel tanks of craft's dorsal surface for optional special attack/assault specification x 2
• QF-2200A Ghost Fighter equipped with five micro-missile launchers. This can also serve as an extra booster when not deployed.
