"The Fisherman: A Codfish Tale" is a narrative-driven, exploration-focused game based on thetrue story of the ship"Maria da Glória", where players will immerse themselves in the challenging life of Lázaro, a Portuguese fisherman during the peak of the cod fishing fleets.

Set in 1942 during World War II, experience the challenges and homesickness faced by the sailors as they navigate theGreenland Seas to fish cod. Immerse yourself in an emotional narrative with dialogues inauthentic old Portuguese slang and fulfill the duties of a traditional fisherman as you unravel thetragic fate of the ship.

In addition to the historical context and personal struggles of the characters, the game incorporates a feature ofclimate change awareness. The game serves as a reminder of the connection of human actions and the environment, highlighting the need forsustainable fishing practices.

About The Fisherman

The Fisherman: A Codfish Tale® was initially developed by Loading Studios for a collaborative academic project in February 2023. The game was remastered in 2025, driven by a deep desire to showcase more about the Portuguese culture and climate change awareness, explicitly focusing on the codfish fishing tradition and fishermen's Naive Art style.

Notes

It's crucial to note that the content now accessible for download on the store is merely a prototype. 

The team will now polish the remaining parts of the game, adding additional content, developing an English version, and presenting the videogame to the Codfish History Interpretative Centre. Preliminary discussions have begun, and there is now the opportunity to be embraced as part of an interactive experience at the Centre.
