Discovered 1903 Sept. 22 by P. Götz at Heidelberg.

Named in honor of Gaston-Jules Fayet (1874–1967), director of the Nice Observatory who computed extensive tables of minor planets and searched for mutual close encounters. (H 128)

Name proposed by the orbit computer Ch. Cailliatte.
