Named in honor of Jan Sniadecki (1756–1830), a Polish scholar, professor of mathematics and astronomy, and founder of the Cracow Observatory. (H 116)

Named by T. Banachiewicz (RI 843).

Sniadecki is also honored by a lunar crater.
