Abstract
The centenary of Iraq is an important moment to reflect on the nature of Iraqi state-making in the past and the constitutional challenges that remain. Many of the cultural, religious and political divisions that British administrators wrestled with in the 1920s still exist and continue to make modern state development very difficult. The volume concludes with historical reflections on current problems and the possible alternative constitutional routes that Iraq and Iraqi Kurdistan may take in the future.
