A 33-Year-Old Woman with Pain and Swelling in the Right Calf and Persistent Fever

Abstract

We describe a case of disseminated mycobacterium tuberculosis infection (TB) with an initial presentation of focal myositis. The initial diagnosis of TB infection was suggested by muscle biopsy findings. The case illustrates that although uncommon, TB can infect muscle in immunocompromised hosts. Febrile focal myositis should raise a clinical suspicion for an infectious etiology.
