The aim of this study has been to answer this basic question: How can the “Last-Mile” challenge be addressed to supply broadband to underserviced communities by combining existing and emerging technology? In the process, a substantial body of multi-disciplinary technical literature was reviewed over a period of 2 years (with a special focus on recent publications) in order to create a forward-thinking body of knowledge.
