To help researchers use our collections, we offer the following travel grants, which can fund transportation, hotels, and other expenses necessary for visiting us for archival research.
TheMaurice A. Biot Fund andVictor and Joy Wouk Fund each support grants of up to $2000 to graduate students or established scholars who plan to spend at least five full days conducting research in the Caltech Archives. All projects are eligible for the Biot awards, with a preference for those in the history of technology, aeronautics, applied mechanics, and geophysics. The Wouk fund specifically supports research using theVictor Wouk Papers. To apply for either grant, please emailarchives@caltech.edu with a CV and a statement of up to 500 words describing your research and how Caltech collections will support it. If you live or work within Los Angeles County, please also send a brief budget of your expenses associated with visiting us for archival research.
Caltech also participates in theConsortium for History of Science, Technology and Medicine, which offersresearch fellowships for scholars using the collections of two or more member institutions, including Caltech. In addition, CHSTM offers dissertation fellowships, postdoctoral fellowships, and fellowships for independent and alt-academic scholars.
