“but your people took it for granted”
this is such an interesting movie in the sense that you can go as deep as you’d like to go with it. at surface level is a very thrilling and accessible horror movie, but the possibilities are endless from there in all kinds of different directions. i’ve been thinking about it more and more, and during my rewatch tonight my mind was racing with bigger picture theories the entire time
the most fascinating theory that my thoughts were preoccupied with involves the switching of the two girls at the beginning and how it shapes the story: we learn at the end that they switched as children, but the way that this information affects…
I really, really, really enjoyed this film. But as I left the theatre, I had so many more questions than I entered with, and the more I talked about it with a friend the more I realized that it is a complete inverse of the structure inGet Out (which tightens to a conclusion, as opposed to unraveling as you get more answers) which set me up to be disappointed. My fault!
I’m confused by so much of what happened in this movie and what it means and how certain ideas seemingly conflict with the rules of the world, but I still think I loved it. The only review I saw before watching this movie was K. Austin Collins’ Letterboxd…

Themes Explained:
After a second viewing and researching various theories, I’ve realized there is a lot more to Us than I initially thought. The surface-level explanation of the plot is generally straightforward, but there is so much symbolism and so many themes and parallels that Jordan Peele has embedded into the film that require a bit more digging into. I have taken the ideas that stood out to me the most and compiled an interpretation that I feel is closest to what Peele was going for. I’m sure there are many other theories that work, but if anything, I hope this analysis increases your appreciation of a film that I find nothing short of genius.
The main underlying theme in…

WHAT MOVIE DID YOU PEOPLE WATCH
US is an audacious & clever trip through the looking glass that asks how Americans are going to live with ourselves after being reminded of who we really are. a lot funnier than it is frightening — a horror movie for a world in which real life is scary enough on its own. Lupitas! that score!
definitely some bumps in the road, but i was sold on its big ideas. anything more will have to wait.
EDIT: bumping this up to ****. the more i read about it / sit with it, the more i like it. seems to be a pattern with Peele's movies.

1000th logged movie!
Some great setups and ideas here, but it’s execution and payoff are pretty absurd at points. Was quite bored with most of the second act.
