Directed byRobert Redford
Three stories told simultaneously in ninety minutes of real time: a Republican Senator who's a presidential hopeful gives an hour-long interview to a skeptical television reporter, detailing a strategy for victory in Afghanistan; two special forces ambushed on an Afghani ridge await rescue as Taliban forces close in; a poli-sci professor at a California college invites a student to re-engage.

Tom Cruise needs to RUN like you and I need oxygen. It’s what drives his soul. Robert Redford saddled him to a chair throughout this entire movie. His first mistake. Dry as toast.
BREAKING: guilty debate class liberals flirt with joining the war on terror, but in, like, an intellectual devil's advocate type way. A heavy-handed sub-Sorkin play about how it's much easier to apathetically sit around andcriticize someone for theirmistakes (the US foreign policy post-9/11) than it is to be someone who actually stands up anddoes something about it (joins the army and get hilariously, pointlessly wiped out by the Taliban). Tom Cruise *IS* Republican Senator Jasper Irving.
Pretty boring, but at least Andrew Garfield was really hot
when senator jasper irving said "mission accomplished".... sick mission impossible – ghost protocol (2011) reference!

it's a shame when movies that have such great cast, are still bad

Redford compares Lions to Lambs,
Across three stories and their timespans.
From Congress to war,
Asks what it's all for,
Done in the name of Uncle Sam.

andrew garfield’s open shirt and hoodie look... please give me a moment
a de-dramatized war- but fully emoted dialoguedrama. a classic redfordian bugle call to the young modern sophisticated human. US-american i might have to add. a liberal pamphlet against political apathy and agony, for democracy and also celebrated patriotism.
it's a voluble and magniloquent mobilizator, eloquently constructed between subtle intertwinings and crystal-clear plea speeches. nearly a diverting piece of modern american politics-cinema, yet dramaturgically wobbly at times. an euphoric activist that likes to forget certain aspects (hello economical aspirations) and only has american eyes for american concerns.
We watched this movie in “Democracy Class” at my highschool. It’s a pretty depressing movie, not because of all of the people in power screwing over and causing death among innocents. Yes that’s what the title is a reference to, and the theme that is thrown into your face for the entire movie. We already know that is happening, and at a much bigger scale than showcased in the movie although most people choose to kinda just not think about it. The most depressing part is that everyone who cares about it and realizes all of the horrible shit going on basically just accepts that it’s the way things are. The most anyone does, and what is seen as commendable…
The things we watch out of a compulsion to finish Meryl’s filmography…
This is Tom Cruise’s last non-action drama…which stinks bc it’s pretty bad! Tom, work with a good nice director again who knows how to use you and let them and you’ll be fine in your post M-I 60s and 70s!
But it gives me an opportunity to plug my dumb account I made that you Boxheads out there might enjoy, Sloppy Photoshoppy! Ever watch a movie and then they show a character looking at a framed picture from the past, perhaps a family photo or one of the political figures with other real-life political figures, and it looks like absolute ass? Well Sloppy Photoshoppy has you covered!!
It’s…
"Rome is burning. And the problem is not just with the people who started it. They're past irredeemable. The problem's with all of us who do nothing."
Robert Redford Presents: The War on Terror.
Sure, it's a huge misfire, failing to glue three different narratives rife with hackneyed dialogue - a political science professor from "A California University" (Redford) engages in an ideological debate with a wayward student (Andrew Garfield); two of the prof's most promising former students (Michael Peña and Derek Luke) join the military and are injured while serving in Afghanistan; a liberal journalist (Meryl Streep) interviews a smooth-talking conservative politician (Tom Cruise) - into one hodgepodge, but I'll say this for Redford: bold of him to center…
Not good but Cruise should play a role like this again. He slots perfectly into "slimy politician"
