The Dissolvereview. Has exactly two (2) good jokes, which I will now spoil for the benefit of those who'd rather not endure the rest:
• On a road trip, the ladies sing along with an old cassette or CD of "Take on Me" that constantly skips; they've memorized all the extra beats and replicate them perfectly. (This had to be taken from real life.)
• As a beauty-pageant contestant walks onstage for the talent portion of the competition, emcee Bob Odenkirk announces that she'll be performing a rendition of "We Didn't Start the Fire." She's carrying a saxophone.

Horrible script saved by genius comedic performances.
And those comedians wrote the script!?
I can't wait for these ladies to act in a truly hilarious feature. Until then, watch Casey Wilson in Happy Endings and June Diane Raphael in Burning Love and NTSF:SD:SUV:: to see them in really good stuff.

This movie doesn't deserve all the hate it's getting. A funny movie about two not-so-bright ladies is something I enjoy, because I think it's tougher to pull off effectively than it may seem. The two leads in this one also wrote the script, which is sadly not something you see too often these days. They're both talented comediennes with great timing and they play well off of each other. (Being friends in real life probably helps!) I was entertained and amused, and that's all that I wanted from this movie. It delivered; I was laughing out loud. So many reviews seem to be complaining that it has hints of Romy and Michele but that it's not the same. Do you know why that is? Because this is a different movie, you guys. See also: One of my other favorite movies featuring two vapid lady characters, "Dick."
Comedy that has better ideas for jokes than actual jokes themselves.
One of those movies where you're primed to laugh, considering the comedic talent, but you find yourself watching jokes defuse and your spirit wilt.
All the best jokes are in the trailer, and the trailer is just okay.
If you're thinking this will be funny, then you've got it-- title of the movie--
Update- this is funnier than Shoah, so there's that.

Say what you want about this, but the Take On Me scene is legitimately one of the funniest things I've seen all year.
A Review Haiku
It begs the question
Given the talent involved
How did this get made
i will say that the scene where they listen to take on me and the cd is scratched and they know the words to every distortion and repeated word.... THAT is the funniest concept i have ever witnessed in my life
I had a small existential crisis about my place in life while watching this movie and it was still the least painful thing about my viewing experience.

this is my "get June Diane Raphael a solid lead role" 2018 campaign
Or as it should be called, 'Not Quite Romy and Michele'.
Actually, that's not fair. It's nowhere near as good as 'Romy and Michele's High School Reunion'.
At least I can cross that off my watch list...
