In Memory of Matthew C. Russell

On Monday, April 22, 2024, a special FSU Law graduation ceremony was held in South Florida honoring Matthew C. Russell (’73), an esteemed attorney, educator, and civic leader from Riviera Beach. At 88 years old, Russell finally received his long-overdue doctoral hood 51 years after completing his studies at FSU Law. Due to family obligations, he had to return to Palm Beach County immediately after his exams and was unable to attend his own hooding ceremony.

Danielle DeVito-Hurley, Inspiring the Next Generation of Women Lawyers

Through her unwavering commitment to family, mentorship, and community, Danielle DeVito-Hurley (’95) is not just raising her own daughters to be future leaders but also paving the way for the next generation of women lawyers. In addition to her oldest daughter following in her footsteps and becoming a lawyer, DeVito-Hurley also has a niece at a law firm in Miami and another niece who is currently in her first year of law school.

The Gross Family’s Journey from FSU Law to Building Their Legacy

Terry Gross (’79) never imagined that his Florida State University College of Law diploma would one day be the foundation of a family legacy. Today, however, that legacy is thriving through his Pensacola personal injury practice, Gross & Schuster, and in the careers of his two sons, Tyler (’14) and Rhett (’12). Both followed in their father’s footsteps, graduated from FSU Law, and are partners at Gross & Schuster.
