Lake County Tax Collector David W. Jordan Calls for Reform to End Double Taxation of Mobile Home Residents

As Florida works to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and deliver meaningful tax relief, Lake County Tax Collector David W. Jordan is urging state lawmakers to address what he identifies as clear double taxation affecting hundreds of thousands of mobile home residents. Florida has roughly 850,000 registered mobile homes, costing Floridians around 53 million dollars annually. Close to ten million of that coming out of Lake County citizen’s pockets.

Jordan, whose office is responsible for collecting taxes and providing essential services, has identified a long-standing inconsistency in state law that results in mobile home owners paying taxes twice on the same property. Mobile home communities offer affordable housing for many veterans and seniors. This double taxation disproportionately impacts a higher percentage of these mobile home residents.

“Mobile home owners are paying a tax meant to replace ad valorem taxes while also paying those same taxes through rent. Clearly, that was never the intent.” Said Tax Collector Jordan.
