Nickelodeon signs up for Drama Club

The mockumentary comedy will premiere first on digital platforms before hitting linear a week later, and Nick's new Patrick Star spinoff series has officially been greenlit.

Nickelodeon is preparing to launch a new mockumentary-style comedy series called Drama Club(pictured). It will hit the Nick app and website first on March 13, followed by a linear premiere on March 20.

Created and executive produced by Monica Sherer and Madeline Whitby (All That), the 10 x half-hour show is about a group of middle-graders who try to bring more attention to their school’s overlooked drama club. It’s produced by Awesomeness, with Shelley Zimmerman and Brin Lukens serving as EPs, and Eric Falconer as showrunner. Nickelodeon’s Shauna Phelan (SVP of live-action scripted content) and Zack Olin (SVP of live action) are overseeing production. Both were recently promoted whenViacomCBS consolidated the Nickelodeon and Awesomeness live-action teams.

In other Nick news, the kidsnet has officially greenlit SpongeBob spinoff Patrick Star Show.Kidscreenfirst confirmed the news back in August, and the 13-episode series will debut on Nickelodeon this summer.

ViacomCBS’s new streaming service Paramount+ is also launching in the US and LatAm today. Its market entry has triggered new adaptations of popular kids brands SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora and Fairly OddParents that are currently in the works.
