Dr Kai Spiekermann, LSE

I’m a Professor of Political Philosophy in the Department of Government at the London School of Economics. I work in democratic theory, the philosophy of the social sciences and topics relating to politics, philosophy and economics (PPE) more generally.

Among my research interests are group decisions, social epistemology (and especially epistemic justifications of democracy), the ethics of environmental change, and the methodology of political theory and political science. More information ishere.

Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy I am honoured to joinSEP's Editorial Board, as subject co-editor for the Philosophy of Social Science.
What Are Social Norms? Our paper "What Are Social Norms?" is now forthcoming in Economics and Philosophy. It offers a departure from attitude-based accounts of social norms.
Teaching Starts Teaching at LSE starts on January 19. I#,m looking forward to teaching on the philosophy of environmental change and methods in political theory.
BIAPT 2026 I was at the BIAPT Conference in Edinburgh in January 2026, talking about social norms and climate change.
2024-06-30 - NSF RCN Conference Research associate at the NSF RCN grant for "Augmenting Intelligence through Collective Learning", which was now sadly revoked. The final conference was in Vienna at the end of June.
2024 - Open Society Foundation Grant LSE won atransformational grant from the Open Society Foundation on Cohesive Capitalism. I am working withAlex Voorhoeve andRichard Bradley and Suzanne BloksSuzanne Bloks on two projects, one oncohesion and deliberation, the other on protection against severe uncertainty.
