This is an overall explanation of how I usually walk through my art. In this one I needed to work on a cover image for the book.
1. I start off with some small thumbnails. I drew these in my usual red pencil in a 4 in x 4 in sketchbook. Each thumbnail is about an inch in size.

2. Next I take the design I like the best and I did a larger full page drawing on the next page

3. I usually draw everything digitally on my iPad using Procreate. So I added the image to a blank document sized to my cover width. Then I did a sketch over it to adjust layout. I also removed the kobold on the right.

4. After that I started inking it. I use a brush that mimics a real pen and even use a slightly blue color to make it look more hand inked.

5. I have a few marker brushes so I used them to add color

6. I also made a black and white version. I just desaturated the color and adjusted the levels. This is just to have a version for an easily printed copy.

7. Finally I add a paper texture to make it a bit more realistic and “hand made”.

and that’s my usual process. Let me know if you have any questions.
