Time... What a curious thing...
Hello everyone. I've been meaning to get back to you all for a while now, and I have finally found the courage to do so.
I have quite a big announcement to make, one that is very dear to me. I am remaking C:\FOR\EVER, from the ground up.
After neglecting Stephen for so long, I have finally made up my mind.
For so long I have been afraid to get back to this project, for the simple reason I that I want to make that vision justice. And, being more like a philosopher than a programmer, I was scared I would not be able to create the code necessary. To be frank, I still am terrified.
But I want to try anyways, so here I am.
I want to start again from the First Thesis. The main reason is because I will be using Godot, which allows for more pleasing effects and graphics, more fourth-wall-breaking potential and more engaging gameplay - I hope.
But I also want to correct my mistakes, I want the pacing to be more even, I want the dialogues to feel more distinct and better written. And also, most importantly, I now have a better overarching lore for the game. I know the Academy of Ithaca much better now, I have a better understanding of its role, its leader and its exiles.
Using Godot also allows me to make a more intricate combat system. Following this game's original inspirations, I chose to make it more similar to Undertale with a few key differences: you can parry projectiles and you can dodge. When the enemy changes appearance to look more «real», the projectiles become unparriable, and you gain the ability to graze touhou-style.
So don't worry, I will not be retracing every step I took in the original. There will be new content, there will be new characters, new interactions, new developments.
It is a complex game, far more complex than anything I have done since now, and it will take time.
I want this game to be the best version of itself it can be. I want my Stephen to shine, to give him proper closure, to give him an ending.
I will mainly be posting on itch.io for updates, and maybe X for a few concept art or screenshots.
Thank you for giving my work a chance.
With all the love my tiny heart can muster, remember:
to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
