Really loved this one! Camus would be proud, because I sure was happy pushing up that boulder. Enough so, that I ended up reaching the "end", i.e. reality shattering, even after I accidentally closed my first playthrough halfway through. Truth be told, I did the "pro gamer move" of taping my mouse button on my second way around and did some chores and had a nap while the game played - only checking every so often to purchase upgrades.
The graphics work well, the stickman animation is frenetic and adorable, the boulder changing appearance with the upgrade is a nice touch, the music is chosen well, the way everything gets more and more ludicrous with particle effects and the boulder just absolutely flying upwards feels great.
Genuinely really enjoyable and a blast, admittedly, I am also an easy target, as I adore idle games.
Really, the only criticisms I have are the lack of saving progress that frustrated me when I accidentally closed my tab the first time (although that could be seen as a plus for the theme of this jam, after all, closing the game is kind of "giving up", no?), and the ground animation having this optical illusion effect going on, where certain speeds make it look like you are going in the opposite direction or even standing still. The latter could probably be handled by testing for a good animation speed that feels super zippingly fast, and limiting the animation to that speed.
I think the boulder should shrink a little every weight reduction upgrade. I also think there should be some way to see you stats (strength level, top speed, the amount the weather hinders you, [it'd be called "weather reduction"] and possibly unlockable upgrades? {one example would be at like 100m or something an upgrade called "sugar" appears to buy and it gives you bursts of speed at random intervals})
The boulder shrinking is on my todo list and will be put out in a future update.
The stats you’re referring to exist, however I’m only enabling them for debugging purposes. I will consider enabling them for regular gameplay.
Also I will be working on making as many new upgrades as I can for when the final game is released on Saturday.
Thanks a lot for the feedback!
