Very cool and consistent style greets a player upon enteringDethrown. The arcade-ish gameplay is simple and enchants a '90s kid with its 16-bit Super Nintendo-style graphics. Art, animations, and UI: gorgeous.
Very fun and funny ideas all around; wasn't initially sure what to do with the hanging damsels, but once I found out you're doing them a "benefit" by freeing them, chuckles were to be had.
Mechanically very sound; wish there was an ability to leap ahead as the kicking function paused the upward climb enough that I hit the bottom deathzone a couple of times.
But a very complete package,Dethrown, and perhaps the most polished entry I've played this jam. Awesome!
Very fun game.
Really like the scroller brawler take on the theme.
The graphics/music/sound were very nice and pulled me right in.
The game was well polished and the different stages were fresh.
The third stage I felt was actually easier with the wizards not shooting down but overall it was well balanced and a lot of fun.
Minor complaint: the kicking control at times felt unresponsive maybe a keyboard issues?
Thanks for submitting - really good one.
Loved this. Super polished pixel art and a real quick fun arcade-style gameplay loop with a nice little sense of humour. Incredibly complete little game for a week-long jam.
Great classical vibes! The game feels complete and wholesome. I wouldn’t be surprised to see it played somewhere on a game console. The gameplay felt captivating because of two things: it’s challenging, and it exploits the its-good-to-be-bad-exploit. At the same time, to my taste, it’s too unforgiving to your mistakes. It’s perfectly fine for the classical game, but not my best pref.
Superb pixels and sounds! Great music and animation, too. Love kicking barrels into wizards. Love kicking princesses. Love kicking the king :D
Harsh that you just get game over when you run off the screen, I was expecting to just lose a life and get pushed upward. I hate that the wizards still shoot even if you kick them as soon as they appear. I noticed your score resets between levels, and stage 2 has a weird visual bug where it looks like there's two towers on top of each other for a second? Other than those gripes, everything was excellent.
Stage 2 is hard! Those yellow wizards, man. Never got past it in many attempts.
Kick ass game!
Thanks for playing! I'll definitely fix that visual bug and the wizards shooting after being kicked once the review period is over. As for the scoring, each stage is scored individually (there are 3) but if you make it to the end you get a grand total. We definitely made the game a bit on the hard side 😅
I love the absurdity and humor in this game, alongside the arcade-style gameplay!
Good art and sound direction. I like the Battle Toads feeling with controller support too. Nice job.
Really amazing polish and presentation. Made me feel like I was in an arcade and needing to put coins in to replay. I ran into some finicky things with the menu on start, but once the controls seem to pick up no issues. I loved the sound and little animation touches. I do think it could have been a little clearer that it was a good thing to kick off the damsels and you could get a buff, but other than that really solid and fun!
Oh yup this is great. Simple concept with a lot of juice and probably the most replayability I've found so far. Lots of positive things to say about this game but the standout to me was definitely the metal cover of scarborough fair.... any reason you chose that song in particular? Anyways, great job elevating this idea with polish, style, and humor, I loved it.
Really like this idea, the orc was too cheeked up so I couldn't focus and didn't get a high score
Hey man really great art and sound you have put there , really a cool game.
Please do checkout mine too.
Wow. I love finding polished gems like this! It's very hard to fault. I only had two issues: sometimes I couldn't get the orc to kick (like I was a fraction too close to an obstacle), and several times I was somehow sent to the top of the tower prematurely without really encountering anything. Other than that, it's a highly polished, charming throwback to the 90s arcade era.
Should be unfair to make a game this good. What is this.
Looove the PICO-8 arcade vibes, and the DOOM faces as well. just so much charm in this thing, and really highly polished as well. the style is really good, too. never got past the first tower though LOL. really good job on this! consider trying my game as well!
Great game! I really like the game feel and the humor you’ve created with the visuals and the sounds. Best score I got was 990.
