Summarise your game!
For the Kingdom! ...? is a retro style platformer. You play as peasant sent by the king, carrying a basket of bombs, to defend the kingdom against the threat of a dragon. In addition to classic platforming, the player mustn't lose all of their (physics based) bombs before they confront the beast!
Players must traverse through three levels, with a variety of challenges including:
- Obstacles to go under and over.
- Fireballs.
- Moving platforms.
- Trampolines.
- Destructible blocks
- Falling Rocks
Controls:
A/D or Left/Right - Move Left/Right
S or Down - Crouch
SPACEBAR or Up - Jump
SHIFT - Sprint
R - Instant Level Reset
Please explain how your game fits the theme:
You are a peasant being used by the king as a weapon against an attacking dragon. Your life is forfeit for the good of the kingdom.

This is the first game we have made together as a team and the first fully completed game for most of us.
Everything in this game, the concept, all assets, music, sound effects, code, etc. were made by our 3 person team within the allotted 2 weeks.

Such a lovely game. It gave me huge NES vibes with the music. The artsyle is super fun and unique, and I love how the peasants move, as if they're dancing.
At first I thought this would be a daunting challenge, but thankfully the conditions to kill the dragon aren't cutthroat. It made it quite fun to play, since I didn't need to worry about having something like 7 bombs to kill the dragon. The game introduces some mechanics that makes things harder, but they don't feel particularly unfair, and the levels are very cleverly designed.
The dragon animation is also very smooth, I really liked it. What a delightful game!
Good job with this game guys. It's got an interesting story and mechanics, and it's also hilarious. Which makes this my kind of game.
I didn't see how it fit the "You are the weapon" theme until after delivering the goods (that never gets old). Nice one!
Very fun and funny game. The art style is quirky and fits well with the comedic theme of the game. The dragon animations were very cool. I enjoyed the mechanic of trying to keep the bombs in the basket. Nice job!
...And because of the King's bravery and sacrifice, the kingdom hath been saved.
What a fantastic submission! Loved the unique gameplay and creative level design with different level elements. Very charming pixel art style too :))
That was incredibly fun game to play. Love the artwork and the idea. You did a great job on level design too. The only complaint I have is during dialogs I would naturally hit space bar to get all text revealed instead of waiting for word-by-word appearance but that action skipped the dialog. Would be better if spacebar would reveal it and in the end "Hit spacebar to continue" would appear to explicitly confirm that user is done reading. Everything else was great, good job.
My favorite game I played so far, funny that we had pretty similar concepts and I really like your spin on it. The sound design was immaculate. My only request is to speed up the text a bit (or speed it up while holding spacebar).
Awesome game! Not sure if I have any feedback, it's just good wholesome fun. Good job!
Very fun game! The mechanics for the bombs really felt smooth and managing to scrape by to the end was a lot of fun. Each level also built upon the last really intelligently and it kept me excited to keep making progress to see what I'd have to deal with next. I really enjoyed it! Thanks to the King!
This game is incredible. Very pretty difficult but I was laughing the entire time! The art, the dialog, the dragons were all great! The bombs yeeting themselves out of thine basket was so frustrating in the best and hilarious ways.
Good stuff y'all. enjoyed it thoroughly
thanks for playing our game!
The levels were originally much harder and had a minimum of 3 bombs required for most of the levels. If you arrived at the dragon with less, smoke would come out the dragons ears. We had a couple play tests say it was too difficult so we scaled back the difficulty including the required number of bombs, because for a game jam we just wanted to showcase the mechanics, story, art and music. We wanted as many people as possible to be able to beat it. So if we make a bigger game from this, difficulty will be increased and bomb requirements will be higher.
Thou hast some humor and wits, fair sires, maidens, and\or dragons! Thy fine arts and bard skills recall of ye old Sierra quests and other pastimes of those summers. In all my peasant pityness, I shall inform thou that the dragon's head sprouts a stray pixel in the sky. Praise the King!
Had me laughing out loud! The sound design and humor in this was a riot!10/10 game jam game, hilarious and inspiring, I'll bet you had a blast making this one. Love artwork and game design. :)
Excuse me? This was crazy, haha! The way the dragons head explodes, the dialogue, the humor. I'm really thankful for the king's bravery and sacrifice! What I would add is probably coyote time and a jump buffer as grace mechanics. That would make jumps a little easier. But really good work and funny concept!
