You play as Dr Alchemist, an alchemist with the unique ability to enter the dreams of those plagued by psychological traumas such as anxiety and fear. Lshift - dash
Space - Jump
LClick - Primary attack

Mouse - Aim
Unfortunatly we had the 2D artist leave in the middle of the jam and changed the 2d style from pixelart to hand drawn.
Extra Notes
Hope you Enjoy! The vission was much bigger with more Psychological trauma themed levels. In this prototype the protagonist faces his own shadow traumas in this anxiety themed level.

Platformer X vampire survivors is pretty unique and pretty fun! though there are some problems with the inputs. idk if its my PC/browser causing it, but there is a noticeable input lag on movement inputs specifically the shooting and "beast mode" mouse controls is fine.
for the game itself, it starts out a bit too slow because the health scaling is a bit too much to handle early and a bit too easy late(even without +basic attack damage) and some of the upgrades are a bit lackluster so it really depends on RNG if the game will be fun and engaging or boring and grindy
overall its pretty nice!
An interesting take on the vampire survivors formula with a really cool setting.
I'm just gonna start off by commenting on the visuals. The production quality of the 2D and 3D art is really great. But the brightness and lack of contrast in all of it really betrays the quality on show. I can barely see the enemies half the time because they are super transparent and dark on the background and despite all the amazing art on show it all kinda blends together into just darkness. Which is a real shame.
The audio is fine not much to say about it really.
The gameplay is pretty basic, just avoid enemies and shoot and get some stat increases. The death screen mentioned getting to a pillar. Which I think I found? It was a giant crystal. I'm not sure if I was supposed to try and destroy it, it looked like it had a health bar? But it didn't seem to take any damage. I was constantly being swarmed by enemies so I couldn't really stick around to find out, then trying to find it again was impossible.
I liked the infinite loop when you fell but with no real landmarks in the environment it was pretty much impossible to tell where I was in relation to the crystal I think I was supposed to find. I just ended up falling while moving left or right to explore.
I think with some graphical tweaks and gameplay changes this could be a lot of fun. The enemies are immediately bullet sponges from the get go so you just end up being swarmed by them. I also really didn't understand the red bar on the top, it slightly charged when you shot but as far as I could tell there was no way to charge up the shots to do a Megaman X-esk charge shot. Maybe something I'm missing I dunno.
I would have liked to put more time into the game but after several runs of just randomly dying after being swarmed by enemies who seem to way outpace my stat increases I had had enough.
Very fun! I really liked how the game looked, and the music is great too! I had a good amount of fun taking really large leaps and jumps, overall felt fun to move around.
For y'all reference found a bug:
You can click on the level up choices multiple times rapidly before it closes out, so you can stack the effects infinitely. Couldn't resist doing that a lot, leads to some pretty crazy effects! Even if you fix it, maybe it'd be fun to add some in-game cheats like that :)
Cool game, really liked the environment; the background has some nice animations there! Love the steampunk-shadowy kinda style this game has.
The gameplay is pretty dynamic, dodging hordes of enemies and then killin them with a single blow felt pretty good.
Very nice quality overall, I hope you'll continue working on it!
Damn those shadows be having no chill!
So, I liked the vibe and gameplay itself (reminds me "road to madness" mode in "Madshot").
Would love to have a lil bit tighter controls (or maybe it's just a browser thing) cuz rn characters feels a lil to slow to react). Also, would like more distinct indication of shadows damaging player, cuz rn it's not very clear.
Great job.
Well done, the music fits the game really well and I like the background animation. My favorite tactic was falling. Well done!
Wow! Impressive! At the beginning where you drop down and see the perspective shift of the background I was blown away for a second. I'm able to stay alive if I keep moving, but those dark shadows keep piling on me eventually. The visuals are great, it wouldn't hurt to have a little more light here and there. Overall, well done, I can tell a lot of work was put in.
Great job on this submission! I really liked the art style and music. The gameplay all felt very smooth and polished to me. Also, the main menu was very cozy and well done!
Nice work, I need to play some more but initial thoughts are
+ Movement is good,
+ Shooting and the UI is self explanatory
+ Progression pace is good
- Hard to see the platforms
- despite a lot of health re gen perks dying is very easy
- sound effects on the shooting can stack and get on the loud side
Bugs
I noticed I would often get gifted a triple jump without needing to unlock it.
I'll play more later, but yeah. well done!
Thank you so much for your detailed feedback! We're glad to hear that you enjoyed it.
Regarding the issues you mentioned:
As for the bug you mentioned about the triple jump being gifted without unlocking it, it is interesting cause it never happened to us on tests but we'll investigate it.
Thanks again for playing and sharing your thoughts!
