Stephen Douglas (Steve) McMichael, dettoMongo (Houston,17 ottobre1957 –Joliet,23 aprile2025), è stato unwrestler,giocatore di football americano eallenatore di football americanostatunitense nellaNational Football League (NFL). Al college giocò a football allaUniversity of Texas dove fu nominatoAll-American. Nella NFL giocò conNew England Patriots,Chicago Bears eGreen Bay Packers, vincendo ilSuper Bowl XX con i Bears. In seguito divenne un lottatore professionista e un commentatore per laWorld Championship Wrestling (WCW), e durante questo periodo fu anche membro del gruppo deiFour Horsemen, storicastable del mondo del wrestling. È stato introdotto nellaPro Football Hall of Fame nel 2024.[1]
McMichael fu scelto nel terzo giro delDraft NFL 1980 dai New England Patriots[2]. I Chicago Bears lo acquisirono comefree agent nel 1981, divenendo uno dei loro defensive tackle titolari e contribuendo alla vittoria delSuper Bowl nel 1985[3]. McMichael disputò 101 partite consecutive come titolare fino al 1990, quando i minuti in campo a sua disposizione iniziarono a limitarsi. Nel 1988 guidò i Bears con 11,5sack. L'anno seguente concluse con un primato in carriera di 108tackle. Fu convocato come titolare per ilPro Bowl nel 1986 e nel 1987.
McMichael balzò agli onori delle cronache nel 1991 in una gara contro iNew York Jets. Con i Bears in svantaggio 13-6 a un minuto e 54 secondi dalla fine, forzò unfumble su Blair Thomas e lo recuperò sulla linea delle 36yard di New York. IlquarterbackJim Harbaugh poco dopo lanciò iltouchdown del pareggio per Neal Anderson. Con 18 secondi alla fine della gara, Harbaugh segnò un altro touchdown su una corsa da una yard[4]. Il capo-allenatore dei BearsMike Ditka affermò nel 2005 che McMichael fu il giocatore più duro che abbia mai allenato[5]. Steve giocò una stagione con i Green Bay Packers nel 1994 prima di ritirarsi.
