George Guy, dettoBuddy (Lettsworth,30 luglio1936), è unchitarrista ecantautorestatunitense.
È uno dei più importanti esponenti dell'Electric blues americano. Figura di spicco del genere nero è, insieme aB.B. King, uno dei capostipiti.Eric Clapton lo ha definito uno dei migliori chitarristi blues della storia.[1]. È il padre della rapperShawnna
Ricevette la sua prima chitarra all'età di diciassette anni (oggi custodita alRock and Roll Hall of Fame diCleveland).
Dopo aver vissuto fino all'età di 21 anni inLouisiana, un suo amico cuoco aChicago lo convinse a lasciare il lavoro che aveva come custode all'università per spostarsi a Chicago e intraprendere la carriera di musicistablues. Il 25 settembre1957 Buddy Guy arrivò a Chicago e iniziò la propria lunga carriera.
Negli anni successivi incise svariati album e collaborò con tutti i principali attori della scena chitarristica mondiale.
Ha suonato all'evento "Crossroads Guitar festival" organizzato daEric Clapton, nel quale si è esibito in unajam con un più giovane chitarrista di fama,John Mayer.
Buddy Guy è proprietario di un bar inChicago, nella zona del Loop, ilBuddy Guy's Legend[2] con musica dal vivo. A volte lo stesso Buddy Guy serve al banco o suona.
Il locale è anche una sorta di museo, dove si possono ammirare alle pareti prestigiose chitarre accompagnate dai nomi degli illustri musicisti proprietari.
Buddy Guy è estimatore dei concerti dal vivo, che rende dei veri e propri spettacoli, grazie alla presenza scenica e alle proprie doti di chitarrista e cantante.
Nel 2008 Buddy Guy ha intrapreso un toureuropeo e negliStati Uniti. Il 1º luglio 2008 c'è stata l'unica tappa italiana al Live Club diTrezzo sull'Adda. Il 5 luglio ha suonato all'Estival Jazz diLugano, evento gratuito che la città svizzera ripropone ogni anno nel periodo estivo. Il 17 luglio 2010 Buddy Guy è tornato nuovamente inItalia esibendosi alPistoia Blues Festival, mentre il 18 luglio 2010 ha suonato al Festival delle Invasioni aCosenza.
