Moving to the US could be a startup's best move Relocation to the US significantly increases the chances for international startups to become unicorns, according to our research. For example, 44 Israeli VC-backed startups that moved to the US reached unicorn status. By contrast, only 3 unicorns in a comparable US-based sample were based in Israel. This suggests that Israeli startups relocating to the US are about 15 times more likely to achieve unicorn status. We observed similar trends for other countries: – India-founded startups relocating to the US are 6 times more likely to become unicorns (12 vs 2). – UK-founded companies see an 8.5 times greater chance of achieving unicorn status after moving to the US (17 vs 2). These numbers indicate that the US offers unique advantages for high-potential startups from around the globe, particularly from countries like Israel, India, and the UK. Thank you to the Stanford University Graduate School of Business Venture Capital Initiative for support. Note: all unicorns in our sample must be US-based at the time of their first unicorn round.

Thank you to Sigalit Ben Hayoun and Yael Steinhart for inviting me to talk to Tel Aviv University Alumni Organization — and to Assaf Gilad for moderating the discussion.Time really does fly 😅 and it was a real privilege to be back to discuss just how much has changed in tech since I first started, including the recent groundbreaking new leaps into AI.What’s incredible is the pace of innovation in this field. Current market estimates range from 3-7 years until AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) is achieved (AI systems surpassing human cognitive abilities). When this is achieved one can expect the pace of change to be the fastest we’ve ever seen in history 📈Technology and AI is neutral - neither good or bad. What matters is what we (humans) choose to do with it. With good intent, AGI could help solve some of the biggest global challenges (health, longevity, climate change, scientific discovery). With bad intent, it can create even bigger global challenges with significant risks. That is why Google’s motto on AI is so important - to be “bold and responsible”. The stakes have never been higher. Hope humanity rises to the moment, does the right thing, and makes the right choices 🌍Adding below in comments the link to the full discussion (tip: if you just want a summary, past the link directly into Gemini 🪄)#TelAvivUniversityAlumni #GoogleAI

I still see people whiff this part of the budget all the time...(please tell me you won't miss it this year 🤞).My favorite part about the budgeting process:It's late October 🎃... Revenue and EBITDA look good, you're about to hit submit, and then from the shadows someone yells,"𝙬𝙖𝙞𝙩, 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙘𝙖𝙥𝙚𝙭?"Everyone looks around and then the "ohhh whoops" feeling sets in.We forgot capex. 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘺.Why? It's not part of the P&L so it often gets overlooked until the end.The truth is --Capital Expenditures or "𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘅" 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘁.It just happens to hit the Balance Sheet instead of the P&L.There's good news, however -- it's actually a fairly easy process. But first, what is "capex"?Capex is cash we 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 (to acquire an asset) that benefits us 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲.We depreciate the 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁 in the future to satisfy the "Matching Principle."Why depreciate? If I buy a delivery truck, that truck will help me generate Revenue over the next ~8 years or so (by making deliveries). So, I need to "match" its cost against the Revenue it helps me generate. With that in mind, here's how we can build it:Look at the image below...I've got two identical sections that do slightly different things. The first is the "capex" section, and this is where I list the project and its cost.So for the first entry, I'm saying, "I'd like to buy a $75,000 truck in Feb. of 2027 and I think it will last me 8 years (the "useful life")."And you can see over to the right the 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 -- $75,000 goes out in Feb. of 2027.Now, the second section:You can see that same new truck is listed at the top, but over to the right it's different...In Feb. 2027 you see $781 that continues monthly. That is the 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 = $75,000 / 8 years / 12 months = $781 per month.Effectively, the depreciation makes an accounting adjustment to my cash cost so that the expense of the asset 𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙨 the Revenue it helps create. From there, it's a link-up to my Three Statement Model:✓ (1) Capex links to the Fixed Asset account like this: Prior Period balance 𝘱𝘭𝘶𝘴 the new Capex(if done correctly, I should see the $75,000 in the Cash Flow Statement)✓ (2) Depreciation links to my Income Statement, and;✓ (3) it gets captured on my Balance Sheet in Accumulated Depreciation: Prior Period balance 𝘱𝘭𝘶𝘴 the new Depreciation(if done correctly, this will zero out any "cash impact" of Depreciation in my Cash Flow Statement)The net impact of it all?Cash out the door today, but with the correct accounting treatment depreciating the cost in the future 👍Hope this helps 🙂.𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀...📥 Download 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘅 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 👉 https://lnkd.in/e75jhi3d 🧠 Take a modeling 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘇 👉 https://lnkd.in/eccYpT-R 🎓 Master 𝟯 𝗦𝘁𝗺𝘁𝘀 & 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝘄 👉 https://bit.ly/FMECourses

I had the honor to sit down with the amazing Yael Schiff VP Bessemer Venture Partners, and interview her on "How I got into Venture," my new short-form podcast. Yael Schiff shared her journey from growing up in northern Israel with zero exposure to tech or business to finding her voice in venture capital.A few things I loved from our conversation:• How not having a traditional background turned from a disadvantage into a superpower.• Why trusting your instincts is just as important as the data when investing early.• The importance of leaning into your uniqueness, especially if you’re the youngest or most different in the room. She also left a big question for the next guest: • What will venture look like in 3, 5, or 10 years with AI reshaping everything?Links to the episode in the comments

Had the pleasure of joining אלטרנטיבה - פודקאסט הקיימות של ישראל, an inspiring Tel Aviv podcast and community that drives social and environmental change. We covered a lot of ground:→ Moving from the software world into climate, and why constant reinvention matters.→ The big gap between selling software vs. hardware (and how that changes GTM).→ Why defining your ICP early can make or break your first customers.→ The role of humility, knowing your blind spots and closing them before you build. It was a thoughtful conversation, thank you Daniel Baron for having me.To give it a watch: https://lnkd.in/da4Yg4rF

I hired an Israeli Paratrooper Talk about fearlessness! As a CEO, I'm always on the lookout for candidates who can bring a unique edge to my growing business. But I have to admit, I wasn't expecting this lesson - I sat down with a young man, probably around 23 or 24 years old, and started asking him the standard questions - did he have a college degree? Any sales experience? Knowledge of business and finance? The answer to all of them was a resounding "no."But then he dropped a bombshell: "I was a paratrooper for the Israeli Defense Force for the last 3-4 years."Enjoy the video below! Forget the fancy degrees and extensive resumes - what I really want are candidates who have pushed themselves to the limit and emerged stronger for it So the next time you're building out your team, don't be afraid to look beyond the typical hiring criteria. Seek out people with unique, non-traditional experiences - whether it's military service, entrepreneurial ventures, or anything else that has forced them to develop unparalleled resilience and courage. Last week, I had the privilege of facilitating a panel in Midtown Tel Aviv with the Co-founders & CEOs of Silverfort (Hed Kovetz ), Oligo Security (Nadav Czerninski) and CTO of Torq (Leonid Belkind) hosted by friends at Greenfield Partners. This was easily one of the most intellectually stimulating conversations I’ve had this year, exploring the intersection of runtime security and AI agents. Key discussion highlights:The common thread we explored is that runtime security is becoming the battleground for securing AI agents. ▪️ Oligo secures what’s running in the application layer.▪️ Silverfort secures the identity layer on who/what is accessing resources in real time.▪️ Torq orchestrates the operational glue to act on these triage at scale. We see the biggest AI agent risk opportunities for practitioners around:▪️ Shadow AI adoption: Teams deploying agents without security oversight.▪️ Unintended actions: Agents causing data loss or disruption without malicious intent.▪️ Exploitation: Attackers targeting agent vulnerabilities or tricking them into revealing data.▪️ Autonomy vs. control: Challenge of applying least privilege and dynamic access controls.Key themes:▪️ Silverfort (Identity Security) emphasized that identity is the most crucial layer, with AI agents. The opportunity is to enforce identity security in real time, dynamically deciding what agents can and cannot access. Yet the risk is that, unlike humans, agents cannot be MFA-challenged, meaning that without the right guardrails they may unintentionally expose sensitive data or perform actions at machine speed. We need runtime guardrails.▪️ Oligo (Runtime App Sec) showed how runtime visibility has become indispensable in an age where AI agents drive dynamic workloads. The opportunity lies in helping organizations truly see what’s happening inside their applications, but the risk is clear: rushed adoption of AI often introduces vulnerabilities that static, shift-left approaches will never catch.▪️ Torq (Hyperautomation & AI for Security Ops): We see Torq as the connecting glue for all companies and units in an agentic ecosystem. We highlighted how AI-driven automation will drastically reduce response times, orchestrating investigations and containment in minutes rather than days. We're all excited about the future opportunities that AI agents bring within Identity, SecOps, and Cloud App runtime. Together, these perspectives form a runtime security fabric, one that will define how enterprises defend themselves in an era where AI agents are both the greatest opportunity and the fastest-moving risk. ***Massive thank YOU to Greenfield Partners, Josh Trup, Nir Goldstein, Meir Cohen, Ortal Sasson Hendin, Raz Mangel and everyone for bringing this together and making it work! (The best spot in Tel Aviv!)
