Apache HTTP Server Mailing Lists

The following mailing lists relate to the Apache HTTP Server project. Usersshould consider subscribing to theAnnouncements orUserSupport mailing lists. Other lists are for people interestedin helping with the development and debugging of the server.

Formatted archives are available in several places includingthe ApacheMail Archives ,MarkMail , andMARC. Raw mbox archives for most lists areavailable athttp://httpd.apache.org/mail/. You canalso use the mail-to-newsgateway offered byGMANE to accessmost of the lists with a news reader.

Apache Server Announcements

Theannounce@httpd.apache.org mailing list is used to announce majorreleases and other important information about the Apache HTTP Serverproject. Messages are posted only by the Foundation; there is nodiscussion.

User Support and Discussion

The lists and discussion groups listed here are theonly place thatconfiguration and how-to questions belong, ever. Every day, users becomefrustrated, not with Apache, but with how nobody will help them understandhow to get started. 95% of the time, it's not for lack of helpers, but forlack of effort and well stated questions.

Before you go further, please read Eric S. Raymond and Rick Moen'sexplanation of"How To Ask Questions The SmartWay". If you followtheir advice, you will discover that these forums have dozens of helpersready to provide you with guidance on using the Apache HTTP Server!Note:Do not send your Apache questions to Eric or Rick!

Apache HTTP Server Development Main Discussion List

Thedev@httpd.apache.org mailing list is used for discussions about theactual development of the server. All httpd candidates for release areannounced to this list prior to acceptance. Subscribers to this list areencouraged to 'test-drive' these candidates just before they're generallyreleased, and provide their feedback in a [vote] thread. Note thesecandidates areNOT yet released, and should not be carried onannouncement channels, until the testing is complete and they have beenvoted as released on the dev@ list.Configuration and support questions should be addressed to auser supportgroup. This list is only for discussion of changes to thesource code and related issues. Other questions are likely to be ignored.

This is the mailing list to which all activity in theproblem reportdatabase is logged. If you are amember of this list, you will receive a message each time a report is addedor modified.

Source Change Reports

This mailing list is used to notify developers and other interested partiesof changes applied to the master Subversion repository. As changes areapplied, Subversion log messages are sent to all subscribers. (The listname is an artifact of the fact that we used to use CVS.)

Third-Party Module Authors' List

This mailing list is for people who are actually involved in writingthird-party or private modules for the Apache HTTP server. It is a peersupport list for programmers to discuss issues surrounding the developmentof web server modules using the Apache HTTP Server module and APR APIs. Itwas historically hosted atapache-modules@covalent.net, now closed, butstill archived on MARC (see Archives, below).
