Overview

Notarial services are available to people of all nationalities by appointment only. Typically, the document to be notarized is intended for use within the United States; however, there may be exceptions. Moreover, if you need multiple documents notarized, please make only one appointment. Additionally, you will pay $50 USD for each notary seal required at the Embassy or Consulate on the day of your appointment. Finally, you canschedule your notarial appointment here.

On the day of your appointment:

• Please, bring the complete, unsigned documents to be notarized. Even if there are pages that do not require signature or seals, you must present the entire packet.
• Present a valid government-issued ID such as a passport or driver’s license. The name on the documents must be the same as the name on your ID.
• Pay $50 USD per notary seal. (Payable in U.S. Dollars, Euro or by a major credit card).
• Be of sound mind and understand the document you want notarized. Consular staff is not permitted to explain contents to you.
• If your notary service requires a witness, you must arrange for your own witnesses. Consular staff cannot witness your documents.

Examples of Notarial Services Performed at No Charge

• DS-3053:  To notarize aDS-3053 Statement of Consent: Issuance of a U.S. Passport to a Minor Under Age 16 (PDF, 345K), review the instructions on the form and complete the required information fields. Bring your original, valid, government-issued photo ID along with a photocopy of both sides. Since the U.S. Department of State requires notarization of this form, we perform this service free of charge.
• Power of Attorney (in conjunction with U.S. passport applications): When both parents cannot be present to apply for a minor’s U.S. passport and wish to designate a third party, they may sign a power of attorney (POA) before a notary public. This POA must include specific data fields. Include photocopies of both sides of each parent’s original, valid, government-issued photo ID with the POA. Since the U.S. Department of State requires this form to be notarized, we perform this service free of charge.
• Notarization of a document at the Direct Request of a U.S. Municipal, State or Federal Entity
• Notarization of a document at the Direct Request of a Foreign Government

We cannot notarize the following documents:

• Apostille or legalization of a U.S. birth, marriage, divorce or death certificate

U.S. Embassies and Consulates cannot affix an apostille to U.S. documents. An apostille officially authenticates the signature and seal of your state-issued certificate for use in another country that is a party to theHague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents. For state-issued documents, such as birth, marriage, or death certificates, contact the office of the Secretary of State where the document was issued. For documents produced by a federal agency, such as the FBI, refer to theDepartment of State Office of Authentications. If you need an Apostille seal for your FBI Identity History Summary Check (rap sheet), you do not need to notarize the FBI document.

• Certified copy of academic credentials

The Embassy and Consulates cannot provide this service so please do not book an appointment for this. You should contact the issuing educational institution for guidance. More information can be found on the Department of State’s website.

• Criminal background check

• Medallion signature guarantee

A consular officer cannot perform a Medallion Signature Guarantee (which is a financial institution’s guarantee that an investor’s signature is genuine as well as its acceptance of any liability for any forgery within the securities transfer instruction).
