‘Star Wars’ Movie Franchise Headed to Digital HD
'The Phantom Menace' to 'Return of the Jedi' will be with you for downloading, starting Friday, April 10.

Courtesy Everett CollectionIt’s hard to believe that in this day and age,Star Wars is not available digitally. But that will change by the end of this week.
After months of negotiations, the Walt Disney Studios, Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox, the studio which released the original six movies, Monday unveiled a digital deal for the classicStar Wars movie collection. While Fox holds rights to the physical distribution of all six movies, Disney has the digital distribution rights to all of them except Episode IV, the original film in the series. The availability of the digital downloads were jointly announced by Disney, Lucasfilm and Fox.
All six epic films in theStar Wars saga so far will be available on Digital HD, starting Friday, April 10. The move comes ahead of the December release ofJ.J. Abrams‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
“It’s only fitting that audiences enjoy this legendary saga and its many fascinating behind-the-scenes stories on a wide variety of platforms, and we’re very excited to finally bring all six films to Digital HD for the first time,”Alan Bergman, president of the Walt Disney Studios, said in a statement about the six films being available for digital purchase.
The films will be available on Amazon, Google Play, iTunes as well as other major digital distributors.
Bonus material will be packaged around the films, including never-before-released conversations between legendaryStar Wars artists, deleted scenes andStar Wars: Discoveries From Inside features. The first sixStar Warsepisodes will be available for purchase as a complete digital movie collection, and individually.
