Cork began their 2024 season in winning fashion by edging out Clare (1-24 to 0-24) at Pairc Ui Rinn this afternoon.

A Conor Lehane goal after just 60 seconds proved to be decisive for the Rebels as they held off the Banner men’s late rally to get their Munster Hurling League campaign up and running after last weekend’s tie with Limerick was postponed.

Having trailed for large portions, Clare closed the deficit to a point with three minutes left to play ahead of late frees from substitute Darragh Flynn and ‘keeper Brion Saunderson clinching it for the Leesiders.

Meanwhile, at MacDonagh Park, Nenagh, Tipperary recorded a comfortable 1-28 to 1-14 win over Kerry.

Liam Cahill’s men held a 0-17 to 1-11 lead at the interval, with Dan Goggin grabbing a goal for the visitors in the 25th minute to keep them right in it.

However, Tipp pulled away thanks to a Gearoid O’Connor penalty and a barrage of points to win out by 14 in the end.
