The Abstracted Medieval Village Map

This was inspired by a conversation in the forums about generating a village map via the AD&D dungeon generator. My particular point-of-view is that a village doesn’t require a detailed map.

If you want to make a map, knock yourself out, but I don’t find it of much use. What I do find of use is understanding, spatially, where things are in relation to each other. For the ordinary village, there isn’t much difference, in terms of contents, from one village to the next, so we could really use a singular representation.

This image is a version of such an abstracted representation of a village. The dotted lines show the connections between areas and each other.A larger version of this image is up on the Patreon.
