I really liked this! I wasn't sure what to expect going in, but I really love the nostalgic use of old-school JRPG/dungeon-crawling level design, juxtaposed with the flashback scenes... Honestly this was a weirdly relatable game to play, so I have a lot of feelings after finishing and getting such a downer ending lol. I really like that the set-up is your classic RPG "fight the monsters to save the love of your life!" plot, but then then the real monster is the love of her life- the JRPG monsters all try to convince her to save herself and yet never bar her way (or is she striking them down without them resisting...?)
I also am very into the use of a "curse" analogy for an abusive and toxic relationship. It makes me think a lot about how so many people, especially women, think they're obligated to try to "change" abusive person they fall in love with, for myriad reasons. But really, it isn't up to anyone to break the "curse" that causes people to be abusive, especially not at the expense of their own well-being and happiness..
A lot of thoughts about this despite how short it is lol. Which just speaks to how much depth and emotion you skillfully packed into it. Thank you for sharing!
Does anyone know how to install this game on Android? I don't get an APK file, just a download folder with an 'index.html' file inside a folder named 'www'. And I open that file it prompts me to choose a browser, but whichever one I choose I'm just greeted with a blank screen. Please help me out, the reviews on this are really positive and I'm really interested in this game's effects on me
My song goes round and round
Instead of stopping starts again
The music floats around
It starts all over at the end
Whirling, twirling, faster, faster, spinning, can't you see?
Maybe you will hear my song and come to rescue me...
(Congratulations, this short "game-which-is-not-exactly-a-game" is more creepy than many long and complex games...
A friend of mine was in a toxic relationship like this - many years ago. Luckily she dropped him and later found a better person)
This game...I didn't really know what it was about when I downloaded it. I thought it would be just some silly game with some little message behind it, but it was more. I was in a relationship where I would make excuses for my boyfriend when he didn't want to hang out with me and his mom never approved of him dating so I would be okay with not meeting all of his friends or family. It was only now when I look back do I realize that it wasn't okay to be doing that but I did it because I loved him. And the thing is, playing this game made me think about what it must have looked like from an outsider's point of view...basically this game is 10/10 and I hope any one who is in that kind of relationship learns to never settle for less than what you deserve ;)
Never been in a relationship, but my best friend has been through one similar to this. From an outsider point of view it hurts to see relationships like this and how it damages people. I wish that the game character got a happier ending like my friend did, but I guess that's life where not everyone "gets saved". Wonderful game, theme, and even the background music was nice.
As someone who has an ex-girlfriend that is currently in an abusive/manipulative relationship this game really hit close to home. This is one of the deepest RPG maker games I have ever played and I'm impressed by how deep of an impact this game is capable of in such a short amount of time. From the very first few lines of dialogue I knew exactly what was going on, absolutely brilliant. Thank you for making this!
I really appreciate the message. From the other comments, I think people don't recognize that the gameplay is supposed to reflect the unfulfilling and cyclical nature of an emotionally abusive relationship, and so they're criticizing the game for being frustrating (which is exactlywhat it should be). I'm always pleased when RPG Maker games can transcend the tool they're made with, and I feel that this manages that.
