Biography[]

Hogwarts years(1984–1991)[]

Liz began attendingHogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry on1st of September1984 and was sorted intoSlytherin. Liz owned a malefrog namedSir Ribbithe.^[11]

Third year[]

During her third year, Liz tookCare of Magical Creatures^[10] andDivination^[12] as electives. She befriendedHufflepuffPenny Haywood at some point during her year, before meetinga friend of Penny's, who was looking for ingredients forPolyjuice Potion. Liz pointed her wand at the person and demanded them to choose between theBillywig,Bowtruckle andBundimun.^[3]

Fourth year[]

In the firstCare of Magical Creatures class during the1987–1988 school year, aside fromBarnaby Lee, where she was known by the other houses as being one of the nicer Slytherins who showed genuine interest in the course. She exclaimed to not having seen anything as beautiful as aFire Crab shootingflame out its rear.^[10]

She later mentioned during another Care of Magical Creatures class that she had attended a luau inFiji where Fire Crabs were used.^[13]

Fifth year[]

WhenJacob's sibling went to the Library to research how to deal with a troublesomeJackalope, they meet Liz who introduces herself and helps them.^[14]

When Jacob's sibling went to talk to theBloody Baron to ask aboutDuncan Ashe, Liz joined them along with fellow SlytherinsBarnaby Lee,Merula Snyde andIsmelda Murk. Liz thought Barnaby's jokes involving the word "bloody" were funny.^[15]

Sixth year[]

During the1989–1990 school year, hersixth year, Liz proceeded to takeN.E.W.T. levelPotions,History of Magic,Care of Magical Creatures andDivination.

Sometime during the year, she andChiara Lobosca spent time in the Forbidden Forest, where they interacted withBorf and a mysterious whiteeagle owl, whom Liz namedArtemis.

Liz also became a founding member of theCircle of Khanna, a group devoted to avengingRowan Khanna and locating the finalcursed vault, in her sixth year. It was at the group's first meeting in theHog's Head Inn that she learned of the malevolent organisation "R" and itsmotives to locate the final Cursed Vault before them.^[9]

After Hogwarts(1991–)[]

Liz became aMagizoologist after completing her education at Hogwarts.

In1992, Liz, along withTalbott Winger,Barnaby Lee andMerula Snyde went to visit their former classmateCharlie Weasley at theRomanian Dragon Sanctuary and he asked them for afavour, to meet his younger brotherRon at the top of theHogwartsAstronomy Tower and retrieve aa baby dragon that Hagrid had won gambling.

When the four of them arrived, they metHarry andHermione for the hand off. Ron couldn't make it as the dragon's venomous bite had made him sick. While this was going on,Jacob's sibling served as lookout and distractedFilch.

The hand off was done without a hitch, and the littleNorwegian Ridgeback was taken to the Sanctuary, where Charlie prepared a place while the others were away.^[16]

After the death ofBarnaby Lee's grandmother in1992,Barnaby boxed up his grandmother's things and put them in the attic. Thehouse was clean, but Barnaby felt lonelier than ever. To him, the house didn't really feel like home, but was just the place where he slept. At the recommendation ofJacob's sibling, he invited several of his former classmates (who also happened to be having issues with their living situation) to take up residence at the house as well to help keep him company. This included Liz, who didn't have a place to stay.^[17]

Personality and traits[]

She was socially awkward and had difficulty with befriending others, and most other students viewed her as weird. However, she was also known as being one of the nicer Slytherins who genuinely enjoyed the classes and courses she took. Liz lovedmagicalcreatures and had the desire to become aMagizoologist likeNewt Scamander.^[3] She cared deeply the well-being of the creatures: she was afraid theblood on theBloody Baron was the blood of an animal,^[15] she was known to object to animal-to-objectTransfigurations^[18] and has been implied to be a vegan multiple times.^[19]

She also enjoyed readingThe Quibbler, which she also did duringDivination classes.^[20]

Magical abilities and skills[]

• Potions: Liz achieved an 'Outstanding' in her O.W.L.Potions exam, meaning she was able to advance to the N.E.W.T.-level Potions class taught bySeverus Snape, showing considerable talent in this field.^[21]
• Care of Magical Creatures: From an early age, Liz was highly passionate aboutMagizoology and started studying Care of Magical Creatures from herthird year onward.^[10] She later earned either an "Exceeds Expectations" or "Outstanding" grade in herO.W.L., as she studied the subject atN.E.W.T.,^[22] showing considerable proficiency in this field.
• Divination: Whilst not being a natural bornSeer like hermother, Liz was still talented in the art of divination in her own right, as she earned a high enough grade at O.W.L. in thesubject which allowed her to study it at N.E.W.T. level.^[12][20]
• History of Magic: Liz was knowledgeable and proficient in the study of magical history, as she was able to study the subject at N.E.W.T. level.^{[citation needed]}
• Herbology: Liz earned an O.W.L. in this subject at Hogwarts, and continued it further at N.E.W.T. level, showing she was knowledgeable about this subject.^{[citation needed]}
• Muggle Studies: Liz earned an O.W.L. in this subject at Hogwarts, and continued it further at N.E.W.T. level, showing she was knowledgeable about this subject.^{[citation needed]}
• Transfiguration: Liz was skilled in transfiguration given how she had earned aO.W.L. in thesubject at Hogwarts, allowing her to study it atN.E.W.T. level.^{[citation needed]}
• Astronomy: Liz was skilled in astronomy given how she had earned aO.W.L. in thesubject at Hogwarts, allowing her to study it atN.E.W.T. level.^{[citation needed]}
• Charms: Liz knew some duelling spells like theDisarming Charm, theTickling Charm and theBanishing Charm.^{[citation needed]}
• Duelling: Liz had some duelling skills and was even complimented by Diego Caplan who was one of the best duellist at Hogwarts.^{[citation needed]}
• Dark Arts: Liz was shown to be possess a degree of skill in the Dark Arts, being able to successfully castdark charms such as theKnockback Jinx andFull Body-Bind Curse.^{[citation needed]}
• Healing magic: Liz had some skill in the field of healing, as she was able to successfully cast theEpiskeyhealing spell.^{[citation needed]}

Behind the scenes[]

• InHarry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, players who advanced into Year 4 prior to12 July,2018‎, would first meet Liz in Year 4; this is due to the belated released Side Quest "Polyjuice Potion," which actually chronologically happened in Year 3.^[23] This has since been replaced by the Winning By A Hare Side Quest, in which Liz introduces herself, released in November 2022 available to players who have reached Year 5 Chapter 10.
• InHarry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, during the "Search for Odour" part of the Care of Magical Creatures class, when clicking "Sniff Liz," the speech bubble "Lizard smells like lake water and hay" would appear; indicating either her full first name or nickname is "Lizard," or it is a typo.^[24] It was later revealed that Lizard was in fact her nickname.^[3]
• Liz Tuttle was used in the Rotate Puzzle game on Novel Games on 13 July 2019.
• During the Murtlap Care of Magical Creatures classes, Liz can mention being a vegetarian^[25] and has been implied to be a vegan multiple times e.g. hoping the cake had no animal ingredients at Hagrid's Birthday Party.^[19]
