Personal life

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born on15 April1990 at 6:00 P.M. in Le Marais,^[3]Paris,France. Her parents are lawyers Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson.^[4][5] They lived in Maisons-Laffitte, Paris their divorce.^[3] When Watson was five years old, following the divorce, she moved to Oxfordshire,England with her mother and younger brother,Alexander. Both of Watson's parents have remarried, and she has three half-siblings and two step-siblings.^[2]

Watson owned ahamster during her childhood by the nameMillie, who passed away during the filming of thefilm adaptation ofHarry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The filming crew built the hamster a coffin with the name Millie engraved on it.

Watson attendedthe Dragon School, an independent preparatory school, untilJune2003. She then transferred toHeadington School, an independent girls' school. Watson was also diagnosed with hyperactive-impulsive type ADHD at the age of five and has been taking medication for the condition ever since.^[6][7] An avid sports player, Watson enjoys playing hockey, tennis and, rounders. She is also said to be a gifted singer.^[2]

Career

Watson knew she wanted to act from the age of six.^[2] Prior to being cast in theHarry Potter films, Watson had only acted in school plays. At school, she took the lead role in several plays, includingArthur: The Young Years andThe Happy Prince. Along with plays, Watson participated in many other school productions, including theDaisy Pratt Poetry Competition, in which she won first place for her year at age seven.

At the age of eleven, Watson made her professional acting debut inHarry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone playing the vulnerable know-it-allHermione Granger. On15 November2002, she starred in thePotter sequel,Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. In the spring of2004 she again played the Hermione inHarry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. On18 November2005, she reprised her role a fourth time inHarry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. InJuly2007, she returned to the Potter franchise a fifth time inHarry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, reprising her role as Hermione Granger.

Following the release ofOrder of the Phoenix, Watson made her first major forays beyond the Potter franchise, playing Pauline Fossil in the television filmBallet Shoes, which aired26 December2007. Watson voiced Princess Pea in the animated filmThe Tale of Despereaux based on the novel by Kate DiCamillo. She was originally not going to return to the role of Hermione forHarry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince to finish her schooling, but soon after fulfilled her role. The film was released on7 July2009 after originally being scheduled for aChristmas2008 release. She then went on to perform the character for the final twoHarry Potter films, filmed in2009 and2010 and released on19 November2010 and15 July2011 respectively.

In2007, Watson was ranked 22nd in Portrait Magazine's 'Top 30 Under 30 2007' and was the only one from her cast mates. In2008, Watson was nominated and awarded fourth place in Portrait Magazine'sTop 30 Under 30 2008 list for the second time.^[8] HerHarry Potter co-starBonnie Wright, who playedGinny Weasley in thefilms, was also nominated and awarded fifth place.^[9] She and Wright were the only ones of the cast ofHarry Potter cast to be nominated in the Top 30 Under 30 2008 list by Portrait Magazine. Watson's post-Potter acting career has been the subject of conflicting media reports, with some saying she plans to quit acting to concentrate on university, and others stating she plans to continue acting.^[10] InJuly2009, it was announced that she will be attending Brown University, in Providence, Rhode Island.^[11] Her subsequent enrollment in classes in September 2009 was met with considerable paparazzi interest.

InJune2009, Watson became the new face of Burberry. As of Autumn2010, Watson is no longer the face of Burberry, but is still with the company. On17 September2009, Watson announced on herofficial website and as reported in theGuardian that she will be collaborating on a fashion line withPeople Tree, the sustainable and fair trade fashion brand. Watson served as a creative advisor on the spring/summer line which was launched in February 2010. InMarch2010, Watson performed in Anton Chekov'sThree Sisters, playing the youngest sister, Irina.^[15] The play was a student-directed play at Brown University, where she was a freshman at the time.^[16] InJune, Watson was featured in the music video of the song 'Say You Don't Want It' byOne Night Only.

InJuly2010, it was confirmed that Watson has aofficial twitter account.^[17] InAugust Watson confirmed that she had got a hair cut, photos were also released. InFebruary2011, Watson became the face of Lancôme, which she still is today. In March, Watson's five piece organic clothing line with Alberta Ferretti debuted. On4 November2011, Watson appeared as Lucy inMy Week with Marilyn alongside herHarry Potter co-starsKenneth Branagh (Gilderoy Lockhart),Toby Jones (Dobby),Zoë Wanamaker (Rolanda Hooch), andGeraldine Somerville (Lily Potter I).

On21 September2012, Watson starred in the filmThe Perks of Being a Wallflower. The film is based off the novel by Stephen Chbosky. Watson played an American high-schooler named Sam. The film was directed by the author of the novel itself, Stephen Chbosky. InJune2013,The Bling Ring, where Watson played a bratty American teenager named Nicki, hit theatres. It was based on actual events where a group of fame-obsessed teenagers use the internet to track celebrities' whereabouts so they can rob their homes. On 12 June she starred as herself in the apocalyptic comedy horror film,This Is the End, directed by Seth Rogen. Watson also co-starred with Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly inNoah (2014 film), basing on the Biblical prophet and directed by Darren Aronofsky, which was released on28 March2014. Watson played Ila, the adoptive daughter of Russel Crowe's character.

On13 March2015, Watson starred in a special episode of the sitcomThe Vicar of Dibley, in the role of Reverend Iris, for the charity organisation Comic Relief's annual telethon Red Nose Day. On9 October, Watson co-starred with Ethan Hawke in the Psychological thriller film,Regression (film)Regression, directed by Alejandro Amenábar, in the role of Angela, a girl who gets tangled up in a satanic cult. In2016, Watson starred in the filmColonia, directed by Florian Gallenberger. She played Lena, a stewardess, who gets caught up in the 1973 Chilean military coup, alongside her boyfriend, played by Daniel Brühl. The film had an limited international release in theUnited Kingdom,France, andGermany.

InJanuary2015, it was announced that Watson had been cast in the role of Belle in The Walt Disney Company's planned live-action adaptation of 'the tale as old as time',Beauty and the Beast, released on17 March2017.^[18][19] In the film, Watson plays alongsideEmma Thompson (Sybill Trelawney), who both voiced and played the role of Mrs Potts.Beauty and the Beast was directed by Bill Condon. Watson co-starred with Tom Hanks and Karen Gillan in the techno-thriller film,The Circle, in the role of Mae Holland. The film is based off the novel by Dave Eggers, and directed by James Ponsoldt.

On25 December2019, Watson co-starred with Saoirse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet in the coming-of-age period drama,Little Women, directed by Greta Gerwig. Watson played the role of Meg March.
