Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born on15 April1990 at 6:00 P.M. in Le Marais,[3]Paris,France. Her parents are lawyers Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson.[4][5] They lived in Maisons-Laffitte, Paris their divorce.[3] When Watson was five years old, following the divorce, she moved to Oxfordshire,England with her mother and younger brother,Alexander. Both of Watson's parents have remarried, and she has three half-siblings and two step-siblings.[2]
Watson owned ahamster during her childhood by the nameMillie, who passed away during the filming of thefilm adaptation ofHarry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The filming crew built the hamster a coffin with the name Millie engraved on it.
Watson attendedthe Dragon School, an independent preparatory school, untilJune2003. She then transferred toHeadington School, an independent girls' school. Watson was also diagnosed with hyperactive-impulsive type ADHD at the age of five and has been taking medication for the condition ever since.[6][7] An avid sports player, Watson enjoys playing hockey, tennis and, rounders. Watson knew she wanted to act from the age of six.[2] Prior to being cast in theHarry Potter films, Watson had only acted in school plays. At school, she took the lead role in several plays, includingArthur: The Young Years andThe Happy Prince. Along with plays, Watson participated in many other school productions, including theDaisy Pratt Poetry Competition, in which she won first place for her year at age seven.

She was originally not going to return to the role of Hermione forHarry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince to finish her schooling, but soon after fulfilled her role. - Watson was not the first choice to play Hermione Granger. Another British actress, Hatty Jones, also auditioned for the role alongside her. Both she and Watson were the last two girls in the audition.
