Break with a Banshee was a book written byGilderoy Lockhart, part of hiscollected works. The book was apparently about Lockhart's feat of banishing theBandon Banshee, which was later revealed to have been the accomplishment of awitch with a hairy chin; Lockhart merely stole the credit for the deed through hisMemory Charms.[2]

Copies of this book were sold atFlourish and Blotts at fiveGalleons each.[3]

The book was a required textbook during the1992–1993 school year, one of seven along withGadding with Ghouls,Holidays with Hags,Travels with Trolls,Voyages with Vampires,Wanderings with Werewolves andYear with the Yeti.[1]

In1997, Hermione considered this book as she was sorting supplies for theirmission to find Voldemort's Horcruxes. She was indecisive about whether or not to bring it.[4]

By the2008–2009 school year, a copy of this book was available in theHogwarts Library.[5]

  • On the second-year school supplies list onPottermore, the title of this book is given asBreaking with a Banshee. All other mentions of this book in the website list it asBreak with a Banshee, however, suggesting that this is a typo.
