The sense of humor shines through here so well, and the pixel art is incredibly charming and inspiring. I really felt like the GBC was being pushed to its limit for what it's capable of. Platforming also feels fair, although it is extremely difficult for me that's a skill issue.
A great all around showcase of what the GBC can do in capable hands (heh).
This is definitely a JAM game, took me about 30 minutes to 100%, but a mechanically very solid VVVVV-inspired game! My advice (for what it's worth) moving forward would be: don't be afraid to let players get a little lost to make the world feel bigger and more interesting. The original Metroid felt so big because not every path ended in a goodie; forward progress wasn't being made 100% of the time. If you want it to feel like an organic world instead of a Game Jam game, find that extra space, find ways to make it interesting, and start building a WORLD. This is a great start though - keep it up!
Dude... this game is a true hidden gem. I'm recommending this game to all of my friends because it is the single best game boy color game I've ever played apart from Crystal (big pokemon fan lol) after this experience, I'm definitely checking out all the rest of your games because as I mentioned before, this game is utterly amazing. The platforming as a whole is really good. One thing I got caught up in however was when you get the last power. I didn't know how to use it for a while. Overall, great game. Definetly getting followed. Hope you make more awesome games cause I want to play em!
I've played some great indie games and some interesting social commentary games. I did not expect this to be both and I'm so glad I had no idea what this was about until I played it. I only saw the Metroidvania tag via RetroAchievements and checked it out.
Excellent game with good progression, some great visuals and an overall well-designed style of gameplay. The brilliant "lore" is just a bonus on top of all that.
If I had one nitpick: I personally found the first boss harder than the final boss on my first playthrough. I would have liked it if the first boss was maybe 5%-10% slower which would have made me more likely to learn the attack patterns before dying a good few times. (I played on Normal mode so not sure if that makes a difference)
Other than that, I am disappointed that someone posted about an Easter egg that I didn't find. I was gonna play it again in hard mode anyway, but I hope I find the Easter egg too!
Well done on a very cool game and I wish you nothing but success!
This was so frustrating (maybe because I played on hard on my first playtrough...), but it was amazing. Also, I am in the save room after the underground chambers and I found only 24 eggs. Is the last one in the final chambers, on the way to the final boss?
edit: I found the last egg and finished the game on hard mode
I found a decently useful glitch. I kinda want to tell, but I don't want you to remove it. So, when you reach the Rat Boss (after getting the double jump), if you're on the ground and keep either the left or the right key, you become invincible. By that, I mean the rat boss can stand next to you or throw those mice and you won't die. Was it intentional or not? Either way, PLEASE don't remove this glitch
This game has it all. Actually, all of it. The gameplay, the art, the music and SFX, even a great story and worldbuilding!
I have found a glitch that is quite game breaking, especially from a speed running perspective. It allows you to double jump early and i have been able to replicate it multiple times. entering and quitting time trials will allow you to double jump, letting you skip a huge chunk of the game (including the first rising acid section) and letting you grab the second soul early
Stumbled across this absolute gem and I'm in love. Perfectly challenging platformer with a great story and pace. The music and design is perfectly crafted and I was hooked for 2 hours grinding through the game. I'm new to the concept of devs making their own game boy games but this feels so true to the handheld console. I crave nothing more than to play this on my game boy!
